IndependenceIT has announced a new report by Ovum titled On the Radar (IT): IndependenceIT. The report details IndependenceIT's Cloud Workspace SuiteR and its advantages over traditional corporate desktop options as organizations work on longer term strategic plans for the desktop that include device mobility and enhanced security.

According to the report, "IndependenceIT has developed a solution that enables any cloud service provider's platform to be used to host its DaaS solution. The Cloud Workspace Suite (CWS) is a hypervisor / cloud platform agnostic enablement platform that allows service providers, ISVs, and IT departments the ability to virtualize the delivery and management of its desktops and backend systems in a DaaS approach. Ovum considers that providing a platform approach for enterprise customers to host their desktops and backend systems provides a solution to the restrictive Microsoft licensing that creates problems for traditional DaaS providers."

IndependenceIT provides a complete cloud-based application and desktop-as-a-service enablement and delivery software platform for the deployment of applications and Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS). The Cloud Workspace Suite provides an integrated online experience that unifies access to critical applications through a single Web interface or Customized RDP Connection. CWS's "bring your own cloud" architecture runs on any hypervisor or cloud platform for easy integration into existing IT implementations and offers a full-featured Microsoft Windows desktop that is accessible from anywhere and on any device and managed the same way.

With CWS, organizations overcome the problematic limitations of solutions that restrict their ability to scale across mixed computing environments. The provisioning and management portal provides a single pane of glass across an entire user base, systems architecture and data centers for systems and support teams. Integration with leading management platforms reduces support costs and response times. Cloud Workspace Suite is compliance ready, with comprehensive reporting and auditing features and takes advantage of the powerful API to extend the solution and integrate with an organization's own provisioning, management and billing systems.

"One of the significant differences between traditional DaaS and IndependenceIT is how the different aspects associated with managing a desktop are performed," said Roy Illsley, Principal Analyst, Infrastructure Solutions, Ovum. "IndependenceIT with CWS provides an orchestration capability that enables aspects such as security and compliance, automation, integration and APIs, to the underlying hypervisor and platform."

Key CWS advantages:

  • IndependenceIT is hypervisor / cloud platform agnostic and can be implemented on top of any public cloud IaaS provider, or private / hybrid cloud.
  • Built-in orchestration capability that manages the security and compliance through to the platform and hypervisor.
  • Provides one solution to the restrictive licensing that Microsoft imposes on the use of the desktop operating system in DaaS scenarios.
  • Granular control over data to prevent corporate data leakage.

"Scale and Integration have been key challenges for IT Administrators when implementing application and desktop virtualization. This has limited the promise of what the technology can deliver for many organizations," said Seth Bostock, CEO, IndependenceIT. "CWS solves this problem up front with a single pain of glass to manage all workloads across any public, private or hybrid cloud. This is coupled with a powerful API set for ease of integration with our customers' existing operations and business support tools, simplifying deployment of the CWS platform while speeding time to market."
