The new Master Plus from Riello UPS are multi-mode uninterruptible power supplies specifically designed for data centres and telecoms installations implementing best practice business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

The Master Plus design incorporates features set to make it the number one choice for IT managers under extreme pressures from both within and outside their organisations. The UPS is easy to operate and maintain, with low installation and operating costs, and sophisticated configuration and remote monitoring options.

The drive within the European Union for cross border compliance, especially within financial markets places a heavy burden on IT Managers faced with an unprecedented fourty EU directives to implement before 2010. These include the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) which is forecast to strike with the combined impact of Y2K and the Basel 2 and Sarbanes-Oxley directives.

Prepation for EU directives requires a review of every aspect of data centre and telecoms operation: data management and warehousing, process documentation, systems implementation and integration, and disaster recovery and business continuity planning where the new Master Plus design scores highly.

Master Plus is highly configurable. Each of the power modules (100, 120, 160 and 200kVA in size) can be configured to work in one of four operating modes:  On-line, Standby On (Economy), Standby Off (Emergency Lighting) and Smart Active where the UPS decides itself on which operating mode to work in. In addition the modules can be operated in parallel up to a maximum of 1.6MVA and synchronised with the output of other third party UPS already on site.

Hot plug in technology allows additional Master Plus modules to be connected into live systems to provide instant system upgrade and enhanced operation. Once connected the new Master Plus module receives instructions from the existing set and starts to support the load. Hot upgrades remove the need to expose the connected loads to raw mains and prevent system downtime.

The Master Plus design provides immediate benefits when planning installations. The UPS requires a minimal data centre footprint with its smallest configuration being only 0.64m. Floor to top ventilation and easy access maintenance panels remove the need for rear and side panel access. The UPS can be placed against adjacent cabinets and walls, saving costly floor area for other applications.

Master Plus achieves a Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 3% in its optimum configuration.  This means that transformers and generators installed upstream can be sized using a factor of only 1.2 providing virtually one for one sizing. A powerful UPS battery care system can recharge a 450Ah (35 minute runtime) battery within 10 hours and its split level charging system helps to extend battery life.

Remove power management is also a Master Plus strength and the UPS is supported  by a range of plug in options including SNMP, MODBUS/JBUS, MODBUS/PROFIBUS, programmable volt-free contacts and PowerShield UPS control software.
