New widescreen multifunction display is bigger, brighter and faster, with Scart for maximum video source compatibility

The latest HT-Series home display from Sony is the most versatile and highly specified yet. With a 20-inch diagonal screen for unparalleled viewing comfort and a super-high resolution WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) widescreen format, its ready for anything. Designed to provide a single solution to the diverse requirements of home users, the HT205 is equally at home as a primary PC display, a fully functional TV or connected to a DVD player, digital camera or games console.

When things are moving fast, the extremely rapid 6ms response time guarantees that they also move smoothly. Games, DVDs and motion video from camcorders all benefit visibly. The same applies for TV, which is accessed via an integrated TV tuner. A remote control provides instant call-up of TV functions including picture in picture (PIP) TV-in-a-window viewing and Teletext.

The HT205 features Sony X-black LCD screen enhancement, which means greatly boosted brightness and contrast, vivid colour and true black. The best way to experience this is by seeing the way photos, movies, TV and games gain a depth and lustre missing from conventional displays, but the huge 1600:1 contrast ratio speaks for itself.

A key part of the HT205s versatility is its wide array of inputs and the facility to select rapidly between them using the display controls. There are three video inputs, including composite/S-video, component and now Scart. Users can connect anything from a PlayStation, digital camera or camcorder, DVD player, TV recorder, set-top box or other SDTV/HDTV source and quickly switch to whatever they want to view.

Both analogue HD15 and digital DVI-D inputs are also present, so up to two PCs can be connected as well, with the same fast selection between them. As a finishing touch, the HT205 is DVI-HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compliant, so it can be used to view the next generation of copyright-protected digital media played on a PC.

The HT205 delivers quality sound as well as outstanding visuals. Integrated 3W per channel stereo speakers and SRS WOW technology create an immersive surround effect, underpinned by a rich layer of bass from a 5W sub-woofer.

The same attention to detail that characterises the HT205 from an engineering perspective is also visible from the outside. The sculpted Rising Design cabinet appears to stand unsupported, and will turn heads even when the power is switched off. Unlike others, Sony design is also highly practical the HT205 has a space-saving compact footprint, and can easily be wall mounted if desired.
