PTX Connect brings Push To Talk (PTT), VoIP, instant messaging, text messaging and voice mail to its WORKABOUT PRO family of mobile computers.
Psion Teklogix, a global provider of solutions for mobile computing, imaging and RFID, today announced the launch of PTX Connect, an enterprise communication software platform enabling mobile workers to communicate in real-time, sharing information cost effectively, while improving workflow across the enterprise.
With PTX Connect, mobile workers can communicate with co-workers in virtually any environment, using a variety of options such as walkie-talkie style Push To Talk, VoIP, and a combination of server-based voice, text and scribble messaging. Additionally, PTX Connect coupled with a 2-D imager in a mobile device allows workers to take pictures, add comments to them on screen, and transmit the final images including notations over a wireless network.
The multimedia capabilities of PTX Connect can be used in a variety of ways. For example, where mobile workers in a noisy warehouse are not able to send a voice message, or initiate a real-time Push to Talk session, they now have the option to send an image with a scribble note (a written message), hence increasing communication efficiency. Additionally, the PTX Connect voice broadcast feature also allows managers to automatically deliver voice messages to their entire team at once, a key feature for conveying emergency messages or company announcements.
"Psion Teklogix is proud to offer its customers and partners a unique environmental messaging solution that enables real-time communication within the enterprise, said Ron Caines, vice president of marketing, Psion Teklogix. PTX Connect is a powerful multi-modal communication platform that will transform how mobile workers inside and outside the four walls communicate with one another and with their supervisors. There is tremendous opportunity in the market for our partners to build on this functionality and deliver innovative applications that incorporate the functionality of PTX Connect to mobile computing customers around the world.
This convergence of multiple communications technologies onto devices that are purpose-built for enterprise data collection applications, allows for the use of a single device for data capture, text and voice messaging purposes, and real-time voice communications. This permits the mobile enterprise to reduce operational and support costs, improve workflow efficiency and workforce communication, hence improving its bottom line.
PTX Connect will be available on the WORKABOUT PRO product family in March 2006, and on a broader range of Psion Teklogix products later this year.
