Hand Held Products, the world's leading supplier of image-based data capture systems, has congratulated Stent Foundations Ltd on SHERPA, its award-winning Hand Held Roving Piling Assistant. This versatile software programme, which was installed on Hand Held Products' Dolphin(r) 7900 mobile computers, recently won the Mobile Data Association's Best Wide Area Data Application Award for 2005.
Stent Foundations is one of the UK's leading ground engineering contractors. The company specialises in piling, excavation support and ground improvement techniques. It won the award for its innovative and productive use of mobile data, despite stiff competition from other high profile entrants.

SHERPA enables Stent to record and check information at each stage of the construction process to ensure that it conforms with the specifications. It also collates the data and provides onward communication. The software is installed on Hand Held Products Dolphin 7900 terminals that are wirelessly networked to an on-site server or connected to an Internet server via GPRS (General Packet Radio Service).
The Dolphin 7900 is a rugged mobile computer powered by Hand Held Products' Adaptus(TM) Imaging Technology. It is packed with technology and features. It can read most bar code symbologies, offers OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capabilities, and can capture digital images and signatures.
SHERPA has eliminated much of the paperwork that Stent previously needed for data recording. The system has greatly enhanced the accuracy and completeness of records; reduced the time needed to collate information; and has detected non-conformances that would have gone unnoticed.
