Get Safe Online is a step in the right direction, says SmoothWall

The Get Safe Online initiative launched today by the National Hi-Tech Crime Unit, is a step in the right direction to help educate the public over how to stay safe online. The problem at the moment is that Internet security is a confusing landscape, with tech jargon going over the heads of the typical consumer, says Tom Newton, product manager for SmoothWall Limited.

SmoothWall welcomes any efforts that will diminish the threat of organised Internet criminals. User PCs are frequently compromised as a springboard to attack larger organisations solving problems at the grass-roots level will help everyone, from home users to multinational business.

The issue of staying safe on the Internet needs to be tackled today. And to do this, computers users need to ensure they apply the correct technologies. Misconfigured security can be worse than useless the industry needs to provide software which ordinary people are not afraid to use, at a price they can afford to pay.
