The New DX6400 and DX6500 Compact Omni-Directional Scanners from Datalogic

The new DX6400 and DX6500 compact scanners extend Datalogics 6000 family of laser scanners based on a modular and scaleable offer, providing a new solution especially designed for omni-directional reading on small and medium sized conveyors. The new scanners can be used in combination with any scanner in the 6000 family to complete a multi-side reading station. They are ideal for data collection activities in sorting and warehousing applications such as in postal hubs, distribution centres and logistics centres for tracking of parcels and small items.

The DX6400 and DX6500 have the same characteristics as the DS6400 and DS6500 scanners in this family with additional features such as an X-pattern mirror for omni-directional reading, a factory calibrated Packtrack function for parcel tracking and maximum plant throughput and a six-sided rotor for a wider reading area.

The purposely designed X-pattern mirror is mounted in the scanner to create an omni-directional reading pattern. The Packtrack function is pre-calibrated so that there is no need for adjustments to be made in the installation phase, so all that the customer needs to do is simply plug the scanner on the conveyor. The six-sided rotor is used to improve reading capability, and the scanning speed of the DX6400 and DX6500 scanners can reach up to 750 scans/sec.

In particular, the DX6400 offers a greater reading area than the DX6500 because it can cover a conveyor width of more than 500mm on a 0.5mm bar code in applications where the dimensions of parcels to be read is constant. Additionally, when the gap between parcels on the conveyor is longer than the area to be read, it is possible to take full advantage of the dynamic focussing system installed on this reader with its impressive reading area.

On the other hand, the DX6500 offers a better system throughput than the DX6400 making it more suitable for applications where the distance between parcels and the dimensions of the parcels vary, because the double laser ASTRA  technology installed on the reader offers the most efficient solution. Datalogics ASTRA  technology electronically switches the laser diodes depending on the distance from the bar code.

Both scanners are equipped with Datalogics GENIUS software configuration programme, which is used in all the scanners in the 6000 family. In the models with built-in Ethernet, it is possible to connect remotely to the scanners by using GENIUS on an Ethernet TCP/IP socket communication, providing easy preventive maintenance and system diagnostics.
