A different class of classroom

Montgomery Junior School, Essex, has stepped up its use of interactive technology in the classroom with the aid of Promethean AV Distribution, one of the UKs leading providers of interactive teaching solutions.

The school chose to supplement its existing interactive technology with PRESENTA pads as a cost effective and simple to use alternative to interactive whiteboards, ensuring that the technology was available in every classroom.

The PRESENTA pad an A5 size tablet, is an innovative teaching tool that connects wirelessly to a PC and digital projector lightweight and durable, this mobile solution allows the teacher the freedom to move around the classroom, stimulating whole class participation. The pad can also be passed to individual pupils to solve a problem or write down an answer without leaving their seat.

Both Montgomery Schools existing interactive whiteboards and the new PRESENTA pads use Prometheans Px software which meant no additional training was required once the new technology had been installed and the school was up and running with the pads straight away.

Promethean AV Distribution helped specialist AV provider, A to Z Supplies, install the new technology in each classroom during the summer holidays and teachers and pupils have been using it since the start of the school year in September. The philosophy behind the development of the new PRESENTA range of interactive teaching solutions and Px software was accessibility and ease of use and the feedback has already been extremely positive.

Jennifer Boreham, ICT Coordinator at Montgomery Junior School said that following the previous use of two interactive whiteboards, also distributed by Promethean AV Distribution, the school looked at the curriculum and their plans for introducing ICT (Information and Communication Technology) throughout the school, and decided that the PRESENTA pad was the most effective solution.

Ms Boreham said: There was no existing interactive technology in our classrooms so we had a blank canvas to work with. Teaming up the PRESENTA pads with ceiling mounted projectors and projector whiteboards was the most cost effective and efficient way of ensuring all of our pupils had access to the benefits of interactive learning and the feedback from both teachers and pupils has been fantastic.

The pads mean that teachers are no longer tied to the board and pupils are actively encouraged to participate and interact in lessons. The children are enjoying their lessons more which means that they are paying more attention and ultimately learning more. It also means that all pupils have the same access to information giving them all an equal advantage in the classroom.

Steve Dracup, Managing Director of Promethean AV Distribution, added that he was delighted with the impact that the effective implementation of interactive technology has had on Montgomery Junior School.

Mr Dracup said: It is very rewarding hearing the positive feedback coming back from both pupils and teachers alike. Montgomery Junior School is a good example of how interactive teaching solutions can improve the learning experience for all concerned.
