StreamShield Networks Selects SurfControl Content Filtering Technology to Protect Residential and Business Users from Internet threats

SurfControl (London:SRF), the world leader in enterprise Web and e-mail filtering has supplied its powerful Web filtering technology to the leader in real-time, high performance Internet content security solutions, StreamShield Networks.

The agreement sees StreamShield Networks integrate SurfControl's extensive Web Filtering Database into its unique Internet-based content security solutions to deliver powerful Internet filtering protection to its home and business end user markets.

StreamShield's managed service offering for Internet service providers achieves unprecedented levels of performance through a revolutionary new silicon-based content security technology called StreamScan, which can monitor network traffic in real-time at multi-gigabit speeds for multiple threats. Combined with SurfControl's industry leading, highly granular database, StreamScan can filter 250,000 Web page requests per second based on each subscriber's individual preferences.

Simon Gawne, CEO of StreamShield Networks, said: "We are breaking new ground in the content security market by allowing, for the first time, ultra high speed Web filtering to be provided in service providers' and operators' networks as a managed service to their residential and business customers."

The solution will protect StreamShield Networks customers from offensive and inappropriate Internet content using SurfControl's world leading content database, which contains over 7 million websites, held in 40 categories, representing over 1.3 billion pages in 65 languages, with 35,000 new sites being added per week. Small businesses will also benefit from a true return on investment (ROI), as they can reduce the man-hours lost to non-work related Internet surfing.

Steve Purdham, CEO of SurfControl, comments: "Our partnership with StreamShield Networks opens up new opportunities for our two organisations in the service provider and network operator markets where internet-based web content filtering brings extensive benefits to customers."

Launching in October 2004, Web filtering, incorporating the SurfControl database, will be available as part of the StreamShield Protector integrated managed content security service for Web and e-mail. The SurfControl database is also being provided in StreamShield's Content Security Gateway (CSG).
