Extricom Ltd., the enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) manufacturer that provides seamless mobility with its patented Channel Blanket architecture, today announced the launch of its new LS-3000 Large Scale wireless switch.

The LS-3000 is designed specifically for very large-scale WLAN environments, such as large logistics hubs, distribution centres and warehouses where seamless wireless roaming is crucial.  The
LS-3000 provides a wireless coverage area of more than 100,000sqm, equivalent to approximately 20 football fields.

Unlike traditional microcell WLANs that are plagued by coverage gaps resulting in lost connections and dropped voice over IP calls, the LS-3000 incorporates Extricom's Channel Blanket architecture that eliminates co-channel interference between wireless access points.  Its unique technology provides multiple uplinks and takes advantage of reflected radio frequency (RF) rather than being hindered by it to deliver wire-like speed and reliability, even in the most challenging RF environments.

The Channel Blanket provides up to four blankets of wireless coverage, each of which can be set up to support a different business requirement.  This means that it is possible to provide one wireless blanket specifically for the warehouse for example, which won't be affected by heavy data usage of Internet browsers, which can impact on bandwidth.  The Internet users can be provided with a separate blanket, as can staff using their own mobile devices in the work environment, such as smartphones and tablets, to minimise the wireless security risks associated with bring your own device (BYOD).

Amit Shvartz, Extricom's VP of Marketing, said: "We have received increasing requests from businesses that need a fast and highly reliable wireless solution that is truly mission critical for their large scale facilities.  The LS-3000 was developed to address this gap in the market by providing a highly resilient wireless solution with seamless coverage that won't be affected by co-channel interference or black holes."

Extricom's solutions have been chosen by some of the world's leading enterprises whose businesses depend on their WLANs. Customers include companies such as Kiva Systems, which after an intensive competitive trial chose the Extricom WLAN solution to manage its automated guided vehicles (AGVs) operating in some of the largest retail logistics centres in the world. Extricom's unique wireless system achieves a performance leap in capacity, coverage and seamless mobility, while making deployment and management radically easier. The result is the ideal WLAN infrastructure for the business that is putting WLAN at the centre of its network strategy.
