Following the success of the OPI range of barcode scanners, Opticon have introduced a higher performance, equally efficient ruggedised 2D barcode scanner into the market.

The OPI-2201 is a lightweight handheld scanner designed for reading both 1D and 2D barcodes from varying distances. This device is IP42 rated allowing for effective cleaning in clinical environments. The scanner also boasts a drop height of 6 feet to concrete, identifying it as one of the most rugged scanners in the Opticon range.

The imager features a real-time adapting lense, fast shutter speed and auto contrast control. Each function contributes to the device's high level of tolerance, ideal for users that require an extremely aggressive barcode scanner, coupled with superb reliability, backed by a 5 year warranty.

The recent standardisation of the use of wristbands in healthcare has accentuated the importance of accurate information. The introduction of 2D barcode scanning has dramatically improved patient safety and the validity of records. By using a standardised wristband, the necessary patient information can be captured efficiently. The OPI-2201 provides a key solution for healthcare applications when used in collaboration with a wristband printer such as the HC100 from Zebra.

The OPI-2201 is an extremely reliable barcode scanner for users heavily relying on 2D reading, ensuring data can be accurately collected and disseminated. The 'plug and play' ability guarantees a quick connection to any medical clinical assistant, desktop computer or COWs (computer on wheels).  The OPI-2201 with auto-focus imager can also read codes from varying distances allowing users to scan barcodes on patient's wrists in a non-intrusive fashion.
