BWE BELL + HOWELL has announced that its midrange Truper Series and entry-level Sidekick Series scanners will be certified for use with the Kofax Document Scan ServerT in the second quarter of 2007.

Kofax Document Scan Server is an integrated hardware and software solution that enables companies to add scanning capabilities to any enterprise business application without the need for additional software or disruption of current business processes. The Kofax Document Scan Server also can centralize the management of every scanner on a network, which allows IT administrators to easily direct the distributed scanning process with no disruption to their existing IT infrastructure.

Designed for use in medical, legal and financial offices, as well as departments of government agencies and educational institutions, Kofax Document Scan Server is an ideal solution for companies that need to capture documents at their points of entry into the organization. For example, with Kofax Document Scan Server, a mortgage company or credit union can scan its closing documents at regional offices instead of shipping the documents to a central scanning facility. The company's employees can simply scan the documents coming into their office to a content management system or loan processing application for faster processing and improved customer service.

Committed to always adding value to its dependable and easy-to-use production scanners, BWE BELL + HOWELL has worked closely with Kofax to ensure that its low-volume production, departmental and workgroup scanners are fully compatible with Document Scan Server. Kofax is in the final stages of certifying the Truper and Sidekick Series of scanners with Document Scan Server.

"Making distributed capture easier to use and deploy with centralized management and controls is an expressed need in the market today," said Russell Hunt, president of BWE BELL + HOWELL Scanners. "Kofax is a long-standing technology partner and we are excited about the value that Document Scan Server can bring to our customers who are either conducting or considering distributed scanning."

Kofax Document Scan Server Simplifies Capture

The Kofax Document Scan Server consists of three key components:

-- A Software Development Kit (SDK) that leverages Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) to allow a developer to integrate scanning into any application regardless of the operating system or programming language.
-- A compact hardware appliance with USB and Ethernet ports for secure scanner and network connectivity.
-- The Kofax Document Scan Server Management Console, a Windows-based application that allows administrators to access remotely any Document Scan Server connected to the network, for network discovery, configuration and management. The console helps administrators configure multiple Document Scan Server appliances, push out firmware updates and new drivers, set up new users and user profiles on the network and remotely diagnose and manage capture hardware.

The Document Scan Server solution can help BWE BELL + HOWELL customers increase flexibility and centralize management controls for their distributed scanning applications. It also can help them reduce deployment, support and training costs.

Joint Capabilities Offer Easier, More Secure Scanning

"Document Scan Server scan-enables almost any application without substantial time and cost investments and with minimal disruption to existing IT environments," said Andrew Pery, vice president of marketing at Kofax. "We are confident that our customers will benefit from a scanning solution that combines Document Scan Server's capabilities with BWE BELL + HOWELL's dependable and easy-to-use document scanners."

BWE BELL + HOWELL's Truper Series will be certified for use with Document Scan Server in the spring. The rotary-only Truper 3600 - winner of the 2006 Best of AIIM Show Award for the mid-volume scanner category - and the Truper 3200 flatbed-plus-rotary model bring exceptional speed and a high duty cycle to this segment. Both models feature simplex and duplex scanning in full color, bitonal and grayscale.

Kofax will certify BWE BELL + HOWELL's Sidekick family of scanners for Document Scan Server in the summer. The Sidekick scanner bundle for workgroup and departmental applications contains everything an end user needs, in a single box, to connect and operate a total desktop scanning solution.  Sidekick, winner of the 2004 AIIM Best of Show Award in the desktop scanner category, is available in two speeds. Both the Sidekick 1200 and 1400u models feature duplex and simplex scanning in color, grayscale and bitonal.

BWE BELL + HOWELL's Sidekick 1400u scanner with Kofax Document Scan Server functionality will be demonstrated at the AIIM 2007 Conference & Expo in Boston at booth #2351.
