NCP announces Secure CE VPN Client support for Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0

Secure Mobile Computing now also available for the latest generation of mobile end devices

NCP Engineering GmbH today announced that its Secure CE Clients now support Microsofts Windows 5.0 for mobile end devices. The move will allow users and companies to integrate the latest series of PDAs and MDAs into a highly secure, enterprise-wide data network.

In the event of a failure in the wireless connection, a special connection mode automatically re-establishes the VPN tunnel. This is a key feature of the new Secure CE Client and ensures that mobile teleworkers are always contactable. User handling has been further optimised thus eliminating the need to configure network access in the CE Client due to its integration of the Pocket PC Connection Manager.

"NCP is one of the first companies to offer clients for Mobile 5.0. We have tested the current Secure Enterprise CE Client extensively. The dial-in function is problem-free; we were particularly impressed with the simple handling and the offering of encryption algorithms", said Bernhard Steiner, a security consultant at Secaron AG responsible for networks and VPN.

The CE Client software has all the features of the NCP Secure Remote Access solutions. This also includes support of various authentication processes such as one-time password processes (OTP tokens) and certificate-based processes (soft certificates, multimedia card) for setting up secure VPN connections to the corporate network. An integrated Personal Firewall is also included with the product. The Personal Firewall works dynamically and enables specification of defined filter rules depending on the respective network environment, as well as secure release of network access to public WLANs (hotspots) via the browser.
