Bexleyheath Secondary school has created a 21st century learning environment by implementing Prometheans interactive whiteboards in all of its teaching rooms.

As part of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI), 100 Promethean boards have been installed, which means that all subjects taught at the school will now benefit from interactive delivery.

The PFI provides a way of funding major capital investments, such as school buildings, without immediate recourse to the public purse. Bexleyheath benefited from a 36 million PFI scheme in the London Borough of Bexley, which provided funds for the design, construction, finance and operation for Bexleyheath and another school in Welling. Bexleyheath carefully researched interactive whiteboard options before choosing Prometheans digital technology to help secure the position as a state-of-the-art school.

Steve Jarman, ICT strategy manager at Bexleyheath, said: Interactive whiteboards are an essential tool for modern day teaching and the PFI has enabled us to implement the technology school-wide. This ensures that whatever subject students wish to pursue, they will always benefit from up-to-date and digitally delivered interactivity in the classroom.

We chose Promethean because as education specialists we realised that their hardware and Activstudio software combination was the best to create a dynamic learning environment.

Projector security was also a key consideration for Bexleyheath. The Promethean systems were supplied with the Sanyo PLC-XE30 LCD, currently regarded as the most secure projector on the market. A built in pin-coded lock prevents the projector from being operated if it is taken offsite. It is also protected by a pin-coded audible alarm, which will sound if the correct code is not input before the unit is removed.

Steve Dracup, managing director of Promethean (AV Distribution), commented:  PFI is a high profile initiative that enables schools throughout the country to regenerate their buildings and teaching environments by incorporating innovative technology. In addition, Promethean is helping to safeguard lessons by reducing the risk of projector theft. Bexleyheath considered this threat carefully and realised the benefits of choosing the Sanyo XE30.

Working hand-in-hand with Promethean reseller, CDEC, an educational AV solution provider, Bexleyheath has achieved the status as one of the UKs leading edge 21st century schools.

Distributing through a nationwide network of accredited resellers, Prometheans portfolio includes the companys range of interactive presentation and training products. To complement this range, Promethean also provides digital projectors and LCD monitors from market leaders Sharp and Sanyo, the Samsung range of digital presenters, and the Projecta range of projection screens.
