Eastman Kodak Company today announced an easy-to-use feeder attachment for the KODAK i40 Scanner that is designed to scan and capture information on forms, identification cards, insurance and credit cards, drivers licenses and similar documents. Users can simply hand-feed and subsequently retrieve documents at the front of the scanner, providing considerable space savings in the office. The i40 is extremely compact with a height of only 16.2cm, so that it can be placed in a very small space even in a desk drawer. This makes it ideal for decentralised archiving and workflow applications in offices of any size as well as doctors surgeries. KODAKs PerfectPage technology ensures unequalled picture quality in a scanner of this class. Additionally, Kodak also announced firmware and driver upgrades for the i40 and its simplex sister model, the i30.

Versatility for Several Different Uses

The special document feeder increases the number of ways that insurance companies, banks, government agencies and companies in any industry can image-enable their business processes flexibly and efficiently.
For instance, a car dealer can easily scan a customers drivers license and ID card before a test drive. A government agency, lawyers office or bank worker can use the i40 to digitise application forms, clients or customers documents right at his or her desk for immediate processing. Doctors surgeries also benefit from the compact i40s features; for example, the medical assistant can scan a patients medical opinion form, prescription and health insurance card at reception and forward them to the doctor via the office network.

KODAK i40 Technical Details

The KODAK i40 Scanner has a top scan speed of up to 25 pages (or 50 images) per minute and delivers clear documents simultaneously in bitonal, greyscale and colour. The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) ensures that paper is entered in a straight line to prevent skewed images. The KODAK i40 Scanner supports duplex scanning with an optical resolution of up to 600dpi. KODAKs PerfectPage technologies ensure a uniquely high image quality and fast document capture for a scanner of its class. For example, these technologies automatically deskew and auto-crop images. They dynamically set brightness and threshold for each document in a batch. As a consequence, the i40 is able to process even the most difficult original documents with consistently high quality. The user simply pushes one button to receive a perfect scan, regardless of the quality of his original documents. The i40 desktop scanner is supplied with TWAIN and ISIS drivers as well as a plug and play USB2.0 interface, making it very easy to install.

Three new firmware and driver features

KODAK also announced firmware and driver updates for the i40 and its sister model i30, available via download to existing customers and pre-installed in all newly shipped scanners as of today.

The new features include:
Kodak Button Manager This feature allows the configuration of up to nine different applications, any of which can be launched using the scanners Start button. Users who want to scan documents into PDF files can do so using ReadIRIS Corporate Edition 9 (included with the scanner) together with this one-button feature.
Image edge fill Reduces jagged edges for a crisper image edge.
Increased maximum document length The maximum length of a document to be scanned is now 863mm.
