Reinforcing its commitment to leading the desktop document imaging market, Eastman Kodak Company today announced a series of enhancements and new features for its KODAK Capture Software for the newest members of its desktop scanner portfolio, as well as the rest of the Kodak scanner family.

The new version of KODAK Capture Software brings several additions to the KODAK i55 and i65 Scanners, launched earlier this year, as well as to the KODAK i30 and i40 Scanners that debuted in 2004. These desktop scanners help small and medium businesses and government offices better capture, manage, archive, and deliver business information. Additional output options and support for the Button Manager function for the i30 and i40 Scanners are among the key enhancements. For example, users who want to scan documents into PDF files can launch KODAK Capture Software (a Lite version is included with the scanner) using this one-button feature.

Our products are constantly evolving to meet the needs of companies and government agencies working to image-enable their business processes, said Nancy Dhurjaty, product marketing manager. Digital images are increasingly the norm in todays business environment. The new Capture Software features provide offices of all sizes with the ability to achieve even more efficiency and remain competitive in the digital landscape.

One of three new output options is LuraDocument JPM/PDF for KODAK Capture Software, which combines Kodaks high-quality imaging with compression software developer Luratechs color compression expertise. The result: greatly reduced file sizes from color and bitonal images.

The use of this function saves end-users time and money because they can export their documents directly from the capture application to either LuraDocument JPM or PDF format, said Carsten Heiermann, CEO of LuraTech GmbH.

Other added output options include an enhanced post-scan Split function, which allows customers with long forms such as questionnaires and surveys to automatically split these into individual images for more convenient processing and retrieval. There is also an update to the Kofax Ascent output option, which now provides an XML output option for automatic import into Ascent.

Further maximizing both the KODAK i30/40 and i55/65 Scanners capabilities are three additional features supported by Capture Software:

Increased maximum document length The maximum document length is now 34 inches.

Image edge fill Reduces jagged edges for a crisper image edge.

Blank page deletion (also included in Capture Software Lite)
