PRINTRONIX IS THE 2004 GLOBAL LEADER: UHF EPC PRINTER MARKET STUDY REVEALS

Printronix Inc. (NASDAQ: PTNX), the leading integrated supply-chain printing solutions manufacturer, led the worldwide ultra-high frequency (UHF) Electronic Product Code (EPC) printer market in 2004, according to the 2004 Global RFID Planning Service study conducted by Venture Development Corp. (VDC). Printronix led the industry in product revenue as well as RFID printer applicator installations.

The VDC study sized the 2004 global UHF desktop and applicator market at $4.5 million. Of this market share, VDC estimates that Printronix captured $1.9 million, or 43 percent. VDC developed this breakdown based on its proprietary research, industry discussions, market research and vendor analysis.

Printronix provided the industry with the first printing tools to create RFID pilot programs in September 2003 and continues to develop solutions that transform RFID from an industry requirement to a supply-chain enabler, said Robert A. Kleist, president and chief executive officer, Printronix. Our leading market share position in the VDC study is the direct result of our commitment to our integrators, technology partners and end users. Printronix is committed to continuing to deliver innovative business and technology solutions that help customers integrate RFID into their supply chains to meet compliance requirements and realise a return on their investments as they deploy RFID within their operations.

According to the VDC study, supply-chain management is the fastest-growing RFID application segment, and this is where Printronix has three decades of recognised expertise in printing solutions.

Mid- to long-term revenue opportunities are strongest within the supply-chain management arena, said Michael J. Liard, program director for AIDC/RFID. Mandates for tagging at the case and pallet levels are driving user evaluation of and investment in RFID. Printronix emerged during the critical early RFID mandate phase as a leader in RFID supply-chain encoding and seems poised to continue to offer its expertise to worldwide consumer goods companies and other supply-chain-dependent industries.

As the leading supply-chain printing manufacturer, Printronix is deeply seeded in this market; 79 of the top 137 suppliers to Wal-Mart selected Printronix for their RFID deployments. Printronix has helped scores of companies evaluate their supply chain printing requirements and seamlessly meet compliance mandates.

Because Printronix led many of the earliest pilot adoption programs for retail, consumer goods and defence suppliers, the company garnered first-hand knowledge of user RFID adoption and deployment considerations, Liard said.
