CNT (NASDAQ: CMNT), the global expert in storage networking solutions, today announced that Hitachi Data Systems will resell its UltraNet Multi-service Director (UMD), a next generation storage networking infrastructure platform. The CNT agreement ensures that Hitachi Data Systems' enterprise customers can now implement highly scalable, high performance storage solutions that meet their dynamic business and IT requirements, including tiered storage and Data Lifecycle Management.

Hitachi Data Systems is already a worldwide reseller of CNT's extension products, the UltraNet Storage Director - eXtended and UltraNet Edge Storage Router. With the addition of the UMD to the existing reseller agreement, Hitachi Data Systems now supplies CNT's full portfolio of business continuity, disaster recovery and SAN switching and SAN consolidation products on a global basis.

Along with CNT's extension products, the UMD has also completed certification with the Hitachi TagmaStore? Universal Storage Platform. The combination of the Universal Storage Platform and CNT's UMD can greatly simplify the building and consolidating of the most demanding data storage environments. CNT's UMD, delivering performance, scalability, and flexibility previously unseen in traditional director-class storage networking products, is a new category of director that complements Universal Storage Platform as a new enterprise storage solution category.

With its scalability in ports, protocols and speeds, and a flexible upgrade path from 1 Gbps up to 10 Gbps, the UMD provides customers with the ability to efficiently consolidate and aggregate storage environments while significantly reducing complexities and costs for complete investment protection.

"An essential element of our new TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform is the ability to provide high performance, storage capacity and management to attached storage systems through virtualisation," said Jim Davidson, executive vice president, Global Marketing for Hitachi Data Systems. "By using a large scale, centralised switching platform like CNT's UltraNet Multi-service Director, our customers can expand and manage their storage networks while reducing network architecture costs. Hitachi Data Systems is working closely with CNT to ensure that our customers can fully leverage the benefits of the Universal Storage Platform and the UMD."

"Together, CNT and Hitachi Data Systems are dedicated to helping customers accomplish their business objectives and build data lifecycle management solutions to meet the continually growing demands of the enterprise," said Ed Walsh, executive vice president of worldwide sales, marketing, and alliances at CNT. "By reselling the UMD with the Universal Storage Platform, Hitachi Data Systems rounds out a comprehensive, yet flexible and cost-effective solution that reduces storage complexity, increases efficiencies, and provides customers with unsurpassed investment protection."

The Universal Storage Platform is a new category in enterprise storage solutions. It provides class-leading storage capacity and performance, and the unique ability to attach heterogeneous storage systems, while virtualising data stored on them. This platform also incorporates Hitachi's advanced management and data replication suite, including the new Universal Replicator. Using those capabilities, Universal Storage Platforms and attached storage can be located anywhere in the enterprise or across the world. Due to its immense scale, virtualisation, and data movement capabilities, the Universal Storage Platform is ideal for consolidation, aggregation, and tiered storage configurations.
