Brother UK has launched two new portable label and receipt printers that will help retailers enhance their next day delivery and click and collect services by boosting warehouse efficiency and improving stock inventory management.
The new devices will enable warehouse pickers to print labels, including barcodes and QR codes, for packages on the move, which has the potential to save each employee up to four hours of time per week – the equivalent of almost 30 working days per year.
Brother says that a universal shift to portable printing across a retailer’s warehouse network will play a key role as the sector becomes increasingly competitive, with more retailers introducing next day delivery and click and collect and focusing on fast, accurate fulfilment as a key competitive differentiator.
The printers use the company’s custom-developed mobile device management app, Mobile Deploy, which will enable software updates to be made to all devices simultaneously.
Hassan Massaud, product and solutions manager at Brother UK, commented: “The fight for consumer attention will continue to drive faster fulfilment options and as retailers battle to drive efficiencies across their supply chain, there are still significant opportunities to boost productivity by digitising warehouse operations.
“Barcoding and RFID systems are a crucial part of the fulfilment process and static printers present a barrier in reducing the amount of time it takes warehouse employees to get packages through the system. Through mobile printing, staff can not only eliminate wasteful trips but improve accuracy, which will result in fewer returns.
“The logistics of warehouse operations depend on reliable, robust and efficient printing and having a portable solution in place will introduce new efficiencies that will help retailers continue to bring down fulfilment times.”
The RuggedJet printers are certified to the IP54 industry certification, are built with molded rubber housing and have a 2.1 metre drop protection to ensure reliability.
The printers are designed to increase productivity through fast print speeds and a range of connectivity options and have a simple, digital interface. The series is also customisable to suit the specific needs of the warehouse and can be integrated with a range of kits, mounts or carry cases.
