In a bid to deliver higher economic impact, reduce cost and increase innovation for clients, enterprise performance partner CSI has partnered with Fresche Solutions (Fresche), a provider of IBM i modernisation solutions, to unblock access to the cloud for IBM i applications.

CSI’s private cloud offering (CSI PowerCloud) allows complex & regulated applications including IBM i and AIX systems to be migrated to the cloud and directly connected to the world’s leading public clouds, no matter the platform they currently sit on.

For over 30 years, IBM i has supported thousands of customers worldwide and continues to be the backbone of their infrastructure into the future. However, CSI estimates that up to 80 per cent of IBM i workloads still run on-premises, locked out from the advantages of the cloud. This is because these large IBM i applications that run mission-critical business operations are written in older coding languages, and the skills to rewrite this underlying code are now rare.

Fresche’s solutions help companies more easily understand, maintain and evolve millions of lines of IBM i code. Once these complex workloads have been modernised, CSI can migrate them to its CSI PowerCloud. Thus, business critical applications that were previously “uncloudifiable” can be taken to the cloud and then on to public clouds if desired.

Mark Vargo, Chief Technology Officer, CSI comments, “Our single aim is to drive the performance of our clients’ businesses forward no matter what applications they are using. This partnership will allow complex IBM i applications to be modernised so that they can be transferred to the CSI PowerCloud, allowing them to then connect to all their other clouds to accelerate their digital transformation.”

Jennifer Fisher, VP of Business Engineering at Fresche Solutions comments, “When it comes to modernising applications, exposing business rules is a critical priority. However, for many IBM i enterprises, core applications – as vital as they may be – remain a “black box” to the teams responsible for modernisation efforts. Our ability to clearly understand and document the entire business application and expose business rules allows us to bring together today’s modern development methods with critical value for CSI’s clients.”

Fresche Solutions’ X-Analysis suite of products provides everything you need to understand, manage and improve your IBM i applications. It allows you to be more productive, make informed business decisions and automate your modernisation process. The suite provides analysts, developers, architects and operations teams with detailed analysis and interactive diagrams that enable an in-depth understanding of RPG, COBOL and CA 2E (Synon) applications and data. These tools are also used to document, analyse and describe systems in a simple manner that can then be shared throughout the organisation, even with members who are not technical.

CSI’s partnership with Fresche will mean that clients can benefit from X-Analysis to extract business rules, audit code and modernise applications to be ready for their journey to the cloud.
