XMA wins five-year contract with University of Northampton for New £330m campus

IT solutions provider XMA has been chosen to partner the University of Northampton in one of the most ambitious projects in the higher education sector, providing the IT hardware and software solutions for the University's new Waterside Campus, due for completion in September 2018.

The new campus is being built from the ground up in the heart of Northampton at a cost of £330m, and will become the new home for the University's teaching, research and consultancy.

XMA will be providing a comprehensive range of innovative IT infrastructure solutions to support high performance mobile access, protect data and provide agile working spaces for around 15,000 staff and students.

XMA Chief Technical Officer, Peter Heath, said: "We are delighted to be selected by the University of Northampton to be its IT partner of choice for the delivery of the highly innovative Waterside Campus. By providing the University with a state-of-the-art IT solution, we will deliver the tools it needs to enhance the learning experiences of everyone who is lucky enough to learn there."

Commenting on the appointment, Head of IT at UoN Rob Palfreman said, "Waterside Campus is a flagship project for the University and an embodiment of our mission to transform lives and inspire change. Built around the needs of our students and staff, and designed to enhance both the local community and the environment, the new campus will be the beating heart of the University for years to come. XMA is the ideal partner to make our digital objectives for the new Waterside Campus a reality. Its proven technical skills and market reputation together with its commitment in supporting our environmental, community and sustainability aims throughout the build phase and into deployment made XMA the obvious choice."

XMA was selected as part of UoN's OJEU tendering process and has agreed a five-year contract. The solution areas covered include best-in-class computing devices and audiovisual equipment to support technology-enhanced learning, unified communications and collaboration solutions for 24/7 access to resources off and on campus, universal Wi-Fi coverage and high capacity connectivity services, and comprehensive storage, backup and security infrastructure.

"The UoN's Waterside Campus is an ambitious project that demands advanced, proven IT infrastructure and services, and we're delighted to have been chosen to provide it," said Andy Wright, Commercial Director at XMA. "This further reinforces our UK-wide leadership position in the higher education sector and challenges us to push new boundaries to deliver the platform for a world-class teaching and learning environment."
