Greater Manchester-based Brother UK has become the first large business in the UK to receive the most prestigious accolade in people management – Investors in People (IIP) Platinum status.

The internationally-recognised accreditation was achieved after receiving online feedback from the firm's 180 employees followed by interviews, measuring performance against the nine indicators of the Investors in People Standard. It highlighted the significant progress the business has made in leadership, supporting employees and continual improvement, all of which have contributed to an average staff retention rate of over 13 years.

IIP also noted the information, communication and technology firm's commitment to sustainable growth and planning for the future, as it consistently seeks to improve its employee offering and customer experiences. In line with the firm's recent success at the Northern Power Women Awards, Brother UK was commended by IIP for taking steps to champion equality and diversity, as well as for its programme of community engagement activities across the region.

Phil Jones, managing director of Brother UK, said: "We see learning and development as a key driver of our long-term competitiveness, as well as collaboration and innovation, which keep us at the forefront of developments in the technology industry and also as an employer.

"It's great that these initiatives have led to us being named as a leading regional employer here in the North West, and also nationally. As the first large business and the first technology business in the UK to achieve this, it shows that with the right strategy, execution and determination great things can be achieved in workplace culture, regardless of how long you've been in business.

"Investors in People estimates that only 0.05 per cent of businesses could achieve platinum status, so we're all incredibly proud of the award which represents a culmination of many years of hard work re-purposing our business. It also serves to inspire us to continue striving to be a leading employer, not just in our sector and our region, but in the whole of the UK."

Paul Devoy, head of Investors in People, said: "We'd like to congratulate Brother UK on their achievement of Investors in People platinum accreditation. It is the sign of a great employer, an outperforming place to work and a clear commitment to success. All the team at Brother UK should be extremely proud."

As part of Brother UK's ongoing work with Investors in People, the firm will be working closely with other organisations to share experience and knowledge of their transformation journey and lessons learned.
