Motorway services group Westmorland Ltd has rolled out BCP's Accord Momentum EPoS solution to its newly acquired Cairn Lodge motorway services operation in Scotland in order to gain the cost and efficiency benefits the system is already delivering in other areas of its business.

Still the only family owned and run motorway services in the UK, Westmorland is a multi-site operation employing some 600 people across all its distinct businesses. These include the award winning Rheged visitor centre, Tebay Services Caravan Park, the Tebay Services Hotel, the J.38 Truck Stop, Tebay Services, Gloucester Services and, now, Cairn Lodge, which serves both sides of the A75 (M), 35 miles south of Glasgow.

BCP (Business Computer Projects Ltd) is a UK software house with a pedigree stretching back over 30 years in delivering dynamic retail solutions that allow retailers to achieve their business goals and dramatically improve profitability. Its latest Accord Momentum suite of retail software offers a proven, feature-rich solution which utilises the latest technologies, including a lean POS system and a Cloud-based architecture, to deliver a resilient and cost effective solution with the flexibility to adapt quickly to ever changing market trends and consumer demands.

Accord Momentum went live at Cairn Lodge in January. It follows successful implementation last year in Westmorland's retail outlets at Tebay Services on the M6 and Gloucester Services northbound on the M5, which was recently named Best British Newcomer 2014 at the Observer Food Monthly Awards.

The system is already delivering substantial cost and performance benefits for Westmorland, providing a degree of resilience that is lacking in most Cloud-based solutions, yet critical to success in motorway services retailing. Company-wide visibility of real time data is facilitating more centralised reporting and control and enabling more accurate, quicker replenishment, resulting in improved sales and profitability.

The ability to deploy and upgrade the system quickly and inexpensively is delivering increased savings as Momentum becomes more widely used across the business and will crystallise further when it is rolled out to the Gloucester Services south-bound operation which is due to open early in the summer.

Jon Lees, retail systems manager at Westmorland: "Accord Momentum is living up to its promises, allowing us to take advantage of the cost and delivery benefits of a Cloud-based solution, but with the resilience we require to trade successfully in our motorway services businesses – and it's helping us to control those retail outlets effectively from the centre with all the additional benefits that brings."
