Avnet Technology Solutions, a global IT solutions distributor and an operating group of Avnet, Inc., has been selected by Cisco as the first distributor in EMEA to provide Cisco Unified Computing System (Cisco UCS) servers running the new SAP HANA software platform. The agreement enables Avnet's EMEA reseller base to engage SAP-based customers across Europe.

The Cisco UCS for SAP HANA solution allows customers to perform real-time data analytics and data warehousing in seconds, while laying the foundation to run SAP's other core enterprise applications on SAP HANA in the future. Through a combination of simplified management and scalability, operational automation and best-of-breed storage options, the Cisco UCS for SAP HANA solution answers customer demand for greater control and manageability of their business-critical applications.

"The in-memory computing market is set to expand rapidly in Europe as enterprises seek tools that will allow them to make informed business decisions at any given moment," said Miriam Murphy, senior vice president, Avnet Technology Solutions EMEA.  "What we offer is a unique service for business partners in the region. We can install the SAP in-memory computing platform and ship the rack mounted servers in as little as three days from receiving an order on most models, placing our partners in pole position to address new SAP customers."

Ed Baker, director, partner operations at Cisco EMEAR, explained, "Partnering is hard-wired into Cisco's culture and business model and we continue to be the most partner-centric organisation in the IT industry. We have been working with SAP on HANA since 2010 and have chosen Avnet as our first European distributor for this solution given its Cisco experience, its configuration and 'build-to-order' capabilities, as well as its excellent logistics strengths."

Avnet has already seen early success selling Cisco UCS SAP HANA to the TRAFFIX Group, a business partner headquartered in Hamburg, Germany.

"We've been providing high-quality data centre solutions for more than 10 years to customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and pride ourselves on our strong relationship with Avnet," commented Nils Albrechtsen, CEO at TRAFFIX Group. "As with many ground breaking technologies, this sale is destined for a technology demonstration lab at the site of one of our customers."

Avnet, which has 'build-to-order' accreditation with Cisco for the Cisco UCS B-Series and Cisco UCS C-Series servers, became Cisco's first specialty data centre distributor in EMEA in 2010. Avnet will install, test and ship four models* of Cisco UCS servers: the 128 GB or 256 GB models based on Cisco UCS C260 rack mount server; the Cisco UCS C460 M2 rack mount server; and the larger Cisco UCS B440 M2 blade server. These models, with the exception of the UCS B440 model, are available to ship within three working days of the receipt of order. The UCS B440 will only be available through business partners possessing Cisco Unified Computing Technology/Data Centre Architecture Partner (UCT/DCA) specialisation due to the level of integration required. The UCS B440 is available with EMC storage and with NetApp storage.
