The Bluebird Pidion HM45 from Maxatec breaks new ground in portable Android devices that are suitable for a wide range of environments and applications. The new IP54-rated handheld computer runs on Android 4.0 and is one of the most ergonomically designed products on the market to date. With ever-increasing interest in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) in the workplace, the Pidion HM45 provides a rugged, reliable and fully functional alternative to using consumer-grade smartphone technology.

"The Pidion HM45 follows Bluebird's stringent attention to detail and industrial design for maximum reliability. Its unique TankSmith technology adds another dimension to the IP54 handheld, sealing it against water and dust ingress. With the familiar Android 4 operating system and its mobile phone form factor, the Pidion HM45 is a true contender for automating a wide range of mobile applications where smartphones just could not withstand rough handling or offer the level of functionality and features available in this product," says Steve Berry, Maxatec Director.

The device features a dual-core CPU and coupled with a large battery and its low power consumption, the Pidion HM45 will run all day long before it needs recharging. A wide range of communication options are available, including 3.5 G/HSPA+ for voice and wide area data, WIFI for local area networks and Bluetooth to connect to other local devices. It also features GPS navigation so there is no need for an additional Sat-Nav.

The 3.5-inch touchscreen can be used for finger or stylus input, is viewable from all angles and works under sunlight. Because this is an industrial product, it features true barcode scanning and image capture and can be used for 1D and 2D barcodes. The decoding software will also read damaged barcodes.

"We are very excited about this latest handheld from Pidion. It's one of those products you want to pick up and use. We think that users will take to it readily as it looks and feels like a smartphone and they'll appreciate that they have a truly rugged piece of equipment in their hands.  It will be a first choice for field service applications and will be a very good tool for logistics environments too. Users will need minimal training to use it as it runs Android and chances are they'll already have a smartphone so they'll soon find their way around the Pidion HM45," says Steve Berry.
