Now even more attractive with special channel price promotion until 31st December 2013

The Motorola ET1 is an Enterprise Tablet that combines the sleek design and user-friendly experience of the most popular mini consumer-grade tablets with the power, durability and product lifecycle of a device built for the enterprise. Based on the highly flexible Android mobile platform, the ET1 can be deployed anywhere within the four walls or in the field. The device is also fully secure, highly durable and ergonomic. And with WLAN or WWAN connectivity, it can be relied on to deliver all the information the workforce needs to get the task in hand done quickly, efficiently and comfortably. For the channel, the ET1 is now an even more compelling proposition in that resellers don't need to be a member of the Motorola Partner Empower programme to take advantage of sales benefits the device has to offer. Moreover, Motorola is currently running a special channel price promotion until the end of the year.

Highly ruggedised

Purpose-built for business, the ET1 offers many of the same durability specifications of Motorola's other business mobile computers; including drop specification, exposure to dust and spilled water. Indeed, it can comfortably operate in temperatures from 0°C right up to 50°C, has been fully tested for multiple 4 ft./1.2 m drops to concrete and is environmentally sealed to IP54. The ET1 also boasts a 7in screen display made of ultra-strong Corning Gorilla Glass™ that is 30 per cent thicker than most consumer-grade tablet displays. Additionally, the screen is recessed by approximately 1mm to provide extra shock protection when accidentally dropped or rested face down on a flat surface.

Data capture and connectivity

For data capture tasks, the ET1 is fully equipped and ready for work. It has a front-mounted camera optimised for video collaboration and low lighting conditions with 720p video capability. It also features a rear 8MP auto-focus camera for barcode scanning and image capture. This camera includes illumination and aiming functions, and is able to capture everything from 1D and 2D barcodes and photographs to video and documents. The ET1 also houses two USB interfaces that can be deployed for functions such as barcode scanning and photographic tasks.

High-speed Wi-Fi connection

Within the four walls of the warehouse, retail space or other business environments, 802.11a/b/g/n capability supports the fastest Wi-Fi networks for superior on-site performance. And the ET1's a dual user-selectable data-only modem provides all the flexibility needed to activate the device on the high-speed HSPA+ worldwide network, the 3G EVDO/CDMA network, or both.* (* Requires activation and data plans on both networks.).

Highly ergonomic

From an ergonomics perspective, the ET1 has moderately wider sides than most consumer- and business-grade tablet PCs in order that it can be held more comfortably and operated with one hand. There are also two small buttons positioned left and right on the upper rear section of the unit for optimum user comfort. These buttons can be programmed to operate a variety of functions quickly, easily and comfortably – such as barcode scanning, photography or video. Another advantage the ET1 has over most enterprise- and consumer-grade devices is its convenient hand strap. Ergonomically optimised for one-handed carrying, the optional 360° rotating hand-strap enables users to view the screen in landscape or portrait orientation, quickly and easily. This means the device can sit comfortably within the user's hand without the need to constantly grasp the device. Additionally, the strap's rotation function means the user's wrist can be kept straight during long shifts, thus avoiding any potential RSI issues.

Security

With the user's data residing on removable media, the ET1 ensures it is always fully encrypted. Therefore, sensitive information, such as customer data or patient information, can be made secure to comply with industry and government regulations. User organisations can also perform full remote lock-down on the device. This action might be occasionally required to, for example, change the settings so that only certain users with the right access profiles can operate a particular application. And with the ET1's multi-user log-on facility, each worker is automatically granted access to his or her own personalised workspace comprising all applicable applications and device features. And since managers know who is using the device at any time, task management is also made easier.

Non-stop operation

The ET1 also includes a number of additional features; or what Motorola refers to as MX extensions. Some of these features comprise programmatic enhancements to the standard Android OS platform. For example, the ET1 can be used continuously for up to 8 hours, after which the device can be put in standby mode, the battery can be swapped out and the device can then continue to operate for a full 16-hour period. Unlike consumer-grade devices, there is no need to wait for an internal battery to be re-charged for several hours before operation can continue. In fact, with a swappable, rechargeable battery, 4-slot battery charger and memory backup battery, users can power ahead for an uninterrupted 24 hours of operation.

Wide market appeal

The ET1 is aimed at a wide variety of vertical sectors. For example, companies in the manufacturing industry can benefit from the device through having access to easily viewable detailed graphics, schematics, video and text. With the ET1 workers can easily collaborate via video with co-workers and product experts in real-time. And the Corning Gorilla Glass display ensures the device is fit for purpose in the most challenging and work-intensive production environments – ensuring staff have immediate access manufacturing-specific applications such as asset maintenance, mobile human-machine interface (HMI), operator rounds and quality inspection from anywhere in the facility. Additionally, the ET1 can facilitate better control and quality of the inspection process, ensuring the proper steps are always performed and product information is scanned for error-free input. Workers can also immediately locate and pull defective material through real-time access to inventory and product details, as well as lower risk associated with recalls, defective material and faulty equipment. Additionally, operations can be optimised through improved production line uptime, with data available at the point-of-problem. And employees can access role-specific applications and tasks with the ET1's multi-user login capabilities. The device can also enable operators to monitor production line equipment while moving throughout the facility. And staff productivity can be improved by reducing time associated with manual tracking and data entry.

Another key target market for the ET1 is the retail sector. Here, the ET1 is just as effective as it is in the manufacturing space, enabling businesses to respond faster to customer requests and secure more sales opportunities. For example, the ET1 can help retail businesses to improve shopper experience and customer loyalty; guide customers in selecting their purchase options with assisted shopping/product comparison applications; immediately locate the customer's desired item – whether in store, online or at another location – with item location applications; and close the sale on the spot, reducing lines and wait time at the register with mobile POS solutions. The ET1 can also optimise the retailer's operations. For example, the device's multi-user login enables associate-specific access to applications and data. The ET1 can also enable retailers to assign tasks and track progress with manager electronic dashboards. And it can ensure merchandise is planogram-compliant with merchandising applications. The device can even assess buying trends, sales and real-time inventory.

Accessories

The ET1 offers a series of genuine business-class accessories that not only make life easier for the user organisation's IT department and workforce, but also allow it to add new features to extend the ET1 lifecycle. With 4-slot ET1 docking cradle chargers and 4-slot battery chargers, the IT team can easily ensure fully powered devices are available at the beginning of every shift – for workers inside the four walls and out in the field. The ET1's hand strap can rotate a full 360°, making it easy for workers to switch between portrait and landscape modes – or flip the device around for a customer to view. With Motorola's belt clip or hip holster, workers can comfortably keep the ET1 close at hand, ready to help answer customer questions and execute tasks. And users can even add brand new features to the ET1 as their business needs change and grow, with accessories such as a magnetic stripe reader for on-the-spot processing of loyalty cards or a high-performance scanner for inventory stock takes and more. Also available are the ET1 expansion scan module 2D imager, and the Combo Scanner/MSR expansion module, plus a spare standard capacity (3.7V, 4620mAh) Lithium Ion battery pack and all required cables.

Additional technical specifications

In terms of operating system, the ET1 comes as standard with Android 2.3.4, Enhanced with Enterprise functionality. The device also comes with 1GB RA M, 4GB Flash plus 4GB microSD (total of 8GB flash memory) and user-accessible microSD card slot. If the user requires the ET1 to undertake daily tasks that require higher levels of memory – such as mapping and other high resolution image displays – the device can supports up to 32GB.

Attractive channel price promotion until 31st December 2013

A major advantage to channel partners is they don't need to be a member of the Motorola Partner Empower programme to take advantage of sales benefits the ET1 Enterprise Tablet has to offer. Available to Motorola Value Added Distributors, alongside the MC2100, ES400 and MC55A0 mobile computing products, the ET1 is packed with features to help end users improve productivity and performance. By simply logging in to Motorola's partner portal, resellers can download a wide range of ET1-related documentation; such as product specification sheets, white paper material and marketing-related collateral. If end users wish to have the ET1 re-branded featuring their own logo and other graphics, Motorola partners can also order this through the portal.

Motorola can also help generate more business for partners through demand generation campaigns. Partners can either create materials and upload their database to Motorola's tool and push it out, or they can download their collateral and use their own tools to distribute it. In this way, Motorola can enable the channel to better market the application from a product perspective. Because the ET1 is part of Motorola's enterprise portfolio there are even more opportunities for the channel to larger volumes. On the one hand, in the enterprise space there is generally less competition than within the consumer product environment. Also, there are some highly attractive margins to be gained due to the enterprise pricing model for ruggedised mobile tablet computers. Resellers can also offer the device as part of a bundled package to the end customer. This package could include accessories such as holsters, mobile payment attachments, battery recharging units and cradle or vehicle mounts. And if the end customer prefers, the ET1 hardware and software can be offered with a fully comprehensive service support contract for 1, 2 or even 3 years.

Summary

So, with the Motorola ET1 Enterprise Tablet's attractive design, user-friendly and ergonomic features, high level of flexibility and connectivity, feature-rich applications, together with a highly compelling channel sales model, the Motorola ET1 is definitely worth a closer look.
