Cognex Corporation, the supplier of machine vision and industrial ID systems, has announced a new series of compact barcode readers designed for 1-D oriented barcode reading. Small in size but exceptional in barcode reading performance, the DataMan 50L measures just 23.5mm x 27mm x 43.5mm and features an IP65-rated housing. It is ideal for mounting in very tight spaces on production lines and in machinery. The DataMan 50L is equipped with Hotbars, a proprietary image analysis technology that delivers the highest read rates in the industry.

Read rates that can surpass 99%

"This product is ideal for customers who want to improve read rates, especially if they have barcodes printed on reflective or pliable surfaces or damaged barcodes," says Carl Gerst, Business Unit Manager for ID Products. Gerst adds, "Our technology has successfully replaced laser scanners in complex barcode reading applications, like multi-sided scanning, for years. The DataMan 50L is premium technology designed for 1-D-oriented barcode reading, and it delivers read rates that can surpass 99%."

The DataMan 50L includes all of the features that make Cognex the premier barcode reading brand, including:

  • Hotbars, which provides the highest read rates of 1-D linear barcodes, including those that are damaged, distorted, blurred, scratched, low height or low contrast.
  • The ability to analyse "no reads" by letting the user see what the reader sees, either live on a monitor or through image archiving.
  • Designed with no moving parts that can become worn out and require replacement.

Fast and easy setup

The DataMan 50L features a three-position lens and an integrated aimer for easy setup at different working distances. The incredibly small form factor enables the reader to integrate into virtually any new or existing installation
