Socket Mobile, Inc., provider of mobile productivity solutions, has announced that CBORD – provider of food and nutrition management, cashless card, and access control solutions – recommends the Socket SoMo handheld computer for use with their CS Pocket Reader, Troubadour card reader, and NetHIMS integrated solutions for colleges and universities.

The CS Pocket Reader and Troubadour card reader enable college and university personnel to handle sales and privilege verification transactions while at outdoor and athletic events. Event managers can configure their event and upload a patron list to the Socket SoMo using CBORD's Odyssey PCS or CS Gold systems. The SoMo is enhanced with a Socket plug-in CompactFlash card reader, allowing purchases and real-time balance lookups with the swipe of the student's ID card, resulting in faster and more accurate transactions.

CBORD has also certified the SoMo with the Socket CompactFlash plug-in barcode scanner for their Net Handheld Inventory Management System (NetHIMS) for Windows Mobile. This powerful inventory management software enables staff to track products at the loading dock, in the kitchen, in the freezer, or out in the retail case—wherever the inventory is located. In addition, the wireless connection improves data integrity with up-to-the-minute inventory tracking and eliminates the need to download data.

"The Socket SoMo offers our customers a great alternative to more ruggedised devices or non-durable consumer PDAs," said J.B. Lockwood, product manager at CBORD. "We have found that it has similar capabilities as other higher-priced options. The SoMo is easy to use and customers have been impressed with the speed and accuracy of the Socket barcode scanner."
"We are pleased that CBORD has certified the Socket SoMo for their college and university solutions," said Vince Coli, senior handheld computer product manager at Socket Mobile.

"CBORD's recommendation of the SoMo demonstrates that there is a need for an alternative handheld computer that is priced lower than more rugged devices and yet more durable than the standard smart phone or tablet, particularly in the education market. The SoMo is the perfect alternative, and with a full line of accessories and plug-ins allowing complete customization, we expect to see more growth in this market."
