Value-added distributor, Cloud Distribution, has announced that Vyatta, the software-based networking solutions provider for virtual and cloud environments, has partnered with Cloud Distribution to help the organisation expand its presence in the UK market. With immediate effect, Cloud Distribution will distribute Vyatta's full range of enterprise-class network and security solutions via its Value Added Reseller network.
Founded in 2006, Vyatta delivers fast, flexible and secure networks providing virtual routers, virtual firewalls and virtual VPN devices. With Vyatta, an organisation's virtual networks can match the security and compliance of its physical networks. The Vyatta Network OS is the industry's only complete routing and security solution engineered to run in all virtual environments. At a time when applications are being migrated to virtualised datacentres and the cloud, Vyatta is unique as it provides the same elasticity and mobility as the application infrastructure it supports.

Devices such as the smartphone and tablets have dramatically changed how employees access and interact with a company's network. As a result, new platforms are needed to manage today's more dynamic networked orgnanisation. In order to better manage the increased strain on networks, organisations are adopting virtualisation and cloud computing technologies to maximise application availability and minimise costs. However, the migration of mission-critical enterprise applications to virtualised environments is producing a perfect storm of networking challenges. While each of these architecture shifts has obvious cost-saving benefits from resource consolidation, they have exposed old-world box-bound IP networking as the weak link in next-generation architectures. To truly support next generation IT architectures, the new requirement is that the network infrastructure be as agile as the applications it supports which is why Vyatta's software-based approach has been so well received by the market.

The news comes on the back of Vyatta's recent announcement to speed up its software-based routing even more with the introduction of vPlane. Vyatta vPlane technology is a highly scalable forwarding plane for next-generation enterprise and cloud network designs. For example on an Intel Westmere-class system Vyatta vPlane can deliver more than 8 million packets per second per core. In addition, traditional datacentre routers cost about US $10,000 to $20,000 per gigabit per second of forwarding performance, while x86 hardware running Vyatta vPlane will cost approximately $100 per gigabit per second in hardware expenses.
