Cranfield University selects Xchanging to design and support backbone network upgrade

Cranfield University, has awarded Xchanging, the business process and technology services provider and integrator, a five year contract for network supply and support services. The contract was won by Xchanging's network and systems integration company, Data Integration, following a rigorous tender process. The contract includes infrastructure, implementation, professional services and ongoing support.

The upgrade project, which replaces the current devices with a new backbone network, will provide enhanced switching capacity and functionality and support the provision of IT services for a 5 year+ lifecycle. The network upgrade will form part of Cranfield University's enhanced technical capability as they continue to grow their research profile and deliver inspirational teaching globally.

The Core and Distribution layers of the network will be upgraded to equipment that is 40GB ready. The solution will provide effective control and classification capability of data to allow for voice, video, multimedia and high bandwidth applications to effectively co-exist on the network. The design provides added functionality, extensibility and performance.
