The Handheld Group, manufacturer of smartly designed and cutting edge rugged notebooks, tablets and PDAs, has received the Red Herring Global 100 award. The honour recognises the leading private companies from North America, Europe, and Asia, celebrating their innovations, technologies and business models across their respective industries. Handheld was the sole Swedish company among the hundred winners.

Red Herring's 2011 Top 100 Global award is a prestigious recognition honoring the year's most audacious and far reaching private technology companies and entrepreneurs from across the globe. The selected companies are judged to have the most innovative technologies and business models originating from 1,100 companies from over 40 nations. Criteria included technology innovation, financial performance, growth, management's execution standards, and potential globalization of the strategy and market share improvement.

"Handheld should be extremely proud of its achievement, the competition for the Top 100 was fierce. The Top 100 Global are truly the best of the best.", said Alex Vieux, Chairman of Red Herring. The Top 100 winners were announced at a special awards ceremony last week at the Red Herring Global forum in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Handheld's line-up of smartly designed and cutting edge rugged PDAs and mobile computers are specifically developed for use in tough environments in industries such as mining, geomatics, logistics, forestry, public transportation, construction, utilities, maintenance, military and security. Professional reviewers and customers alike praise Handheld's attractive design and state of the art functionality, e.g. the MaxView screen technology that provides spectacular visibility even in direct-sunlight.

Handheld was recently awarded a similar Scandinavian honor by Dagens Industri, Sweden's leading business daily. Handheld was named a 'Gazelle' company for being one of Sweden's fastest growing, profitable and financially sound companies. Handheld has been named a "Gazelle" for four years in a row.

The Red Herring Global 100 Award caps a very successful year for Handheld, which included:

  • In February, Handheld opened an office in Sydney, Australia to serve the Asia-Pacific region.
  • In April, Handheld won one of the largest tenders ever in the world for rugged PDAs when Netherlands Railways ordered more than 10,000 rugged handhelds for ticket control and travel information. Handheld was also awarded large public transportation contracts in Canada and Finland.
  • In September, Handheld launched its ground-breaking Algiz XRW rugged notebook with touchscreen.
  • In November, Handheld was named a "Gazelle" company for being one of Sweden's fastest growing and profitable companies.
