First iOS application on Apple App store developed with SocketScan 10 SDK published by ORM London

Socket Mobile, Inc., provider of mobile productivity solutions, has announced that ORM London, a fully-integrated digital services agency based in London, has published the iPad application Event Check-in on Apple App Store. Event Check-in, a next-generation guest check-in system for professional event organisers, is the first of many iPad, iPhone and iPod touch applications developed with the SocketScan 10 Software Development Kit (SDK) to become available on Apple App Store.

SocketScan 10 SDK, designed specifically for the Apple certified Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) 7Xi barcode scanner, enables iOS developers to add customized support for the barcode scanner to their mobile applications, including advanced features such as broader character support or integrated data manipulation often required in enterprise data collection.

The release of ORM Event Check-in represents the first of many offerings in the Apple App Store by a growing community of iOS developers utilizing SocketScan 10 SDK. Socket Mobile has shipped nearly 200 units of the SDK to the channel for distribution since launching the product earlier this year. Besides Apple iOS, the SDK also supports the Android, BlackBerry, and Windows platforms.

"Using SocketScan 10 SDK enabled ORM London to bring our Event Check-in application quickly to market with the high-performance barcode scanning functionality our customers require," said Mahesh Ramachandra, Head of Product at ORM London. "With the easy-to-use SDK and Apple certified CHS 7Xi, our development team was able to add customised barcode scanning support, get our application approved by Apple, and publish to the iPad App Store all in little more than a month."

The CHS 7Xi, which ORM bundles with their Event Check-in application, is used to rapidly scan 2D barcodes displayed on smartphone screens or printed on invitations when guests arrive. The solution, which also integrates SMS and live cloud data, has already been successfully deployed at several large-scale corporate events in the United Kingdom.

"Applications like ORM Event Check-in demonstrate the growing demand for fast and reliable barcode scanners for Apple devices among business users," said David Bledsoe, senior data collection product manager at Socket Mobile. "iOS developers in North America, Europe and Asia have already used SocketScan 10 SDK to customize applications for healthcare, hospitality, retail, and other industries. As more developers publish applications for the CHS 7Xi on the Apple App Store, we expect the market for our barcode scanners to significantly increase among enterprise users of Apple devices."

The CHS 7Xi is also available in an antimicrobial version for healthcare, known as the CHS 7XiRx.
