ScanSource Europe has announced that AppSource now has over 25 ready-made data-capture applications available for use on around 30 different handheld terminals by multiple manufacturers. It means that there are now apps available in several languages that are suitable to be used by end-customers in a range of sectors including healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, mobile operations, retail and warehouse and distribution.

ScanSource is also providing additional training and application customisation support to help resellers and developers get the most out of AppSource.

AppSource is an online store launched at the beginning of 2011 that gives resellers convenient access to a library of applications that can be download for free to test, simulate, demo, customise and configure to ensure they meet the needs of the reseller's customer. Once the reseller's customer orders, only then does the reseller have to purchase licences.

The webstore is aimed primarily at the small and medium business segment where it is often cost prohibitive to develop custom software applications.

"AppSource is part of our focus on building partnerships," said Phil Boyd, Services and Operations Director, ScanSource Europe. "It helps developers to find a wider audience for their applications and resellers to bundle software with their sales of hardware, providing an opportunity to increase margins. It's really useful for resellers who need access to single applications quickly and easily and for whatever reason don't have the resources available to develop apps or a specific app when they need."

ScanSource is encouraging resellers to sign up to AppSource to enjoy the full benefits of the service, and developers to contact the distributor to discuss the possibilities of AppSource hosting their applications.
