TechFaith chooses Red Bend's Mobile Software Management for China Unicom's customised smartphones

Red Bend Software, the Mobile Software Management (MSM) solutions provider with more than 1 billion Red Bend-enabled devices, has announced that TechFaith Wireless Communication Technology Group, a China-based company with global operations focused on opportunities in mobile phones and the fast-growing PC and online gaming markets, has licensed Red Bend's vRapid Mobile firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating solution and vDirect Mobile device management software for use in mobile phones and other connected devices running on Qualcomm's AMSS and Brew MP platforms.

TechFaith, which develops, manufacturers and markets branded mobile phones for differentiated market segments in China, has shipped five Red Bend-Enabled Qualcomm-based smartphones the aigo a700, QIGI WG1, WG TWIN, WG-Ginny and WG-Scepter. All are 3G WCDMA customised dual-mode/SIM handsets developed for China Unicom, one of the country's three largest mobile network operators.

Red Bend's vRapid Mobile enables device manufacturers and mobile operators to create efficient firmware updates for mobile phones and other wireless devices and to install the updates over the air uniformly, efficiently and securely. vRapid Mobile is the only FOTA solution to perform firmware updates in the background, without interrupting consumers as they use their phones to talk, text or search the Internet. Red Bend's vDirect Mobile is an OMA DM-compliant and interoperable device management client for mobile phones and wireless devices. It is used to provision new subscribers, configure applications and network settings, manage software, retrieve device information and deliver firmware updates over the air.
