Blackroc has announced that it will be unveiling a new 'leading-edge' module developed for the Psion Workabout Pro 3 in Q1 of 2011.

The new device is designed to help resellers meet the need of niche applications in certain vertical markets that will give the reseller and Psion an edge over competitor products from other vendors. Although Blackroc is yet to announce details of the new module, recent discussions with Psion over the potential of this product has both companies delighted at the prospect of being involved in this market space in 2011.

Blackroc has a proven history of developing products for Psion. Blackroc's name was in fact derived from the first product that they developed for Psion back in 1990. The Black Rugged Organiser Case (BlackROC) was launched for what is claimed to be the world's first practical pocket computer, The Psion Organiser 2. The device, along with the rugged case, was used by the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and British Special Forces. Blackroc reports that this was the beginning of the Blackroc and Psion partnership that continues to allow Blackroc to deliver niche Psion products, at the right time in the most efficient and cost effective manner.  (The new module is also backwards compatible and retrofittable with the Workabout Pro G2)

Tony Jephcott, CEO of the Blackroc Group, said the company is also extremely excited about the launch of Psion's new Omnii platform and the opportunities it offers to continue Blackroc's development relationship. He added that Blackroc was delighted to be named as Psion's Best Open Source Mobility Partner at the Psion conference in Rome. New Blackroc special products are already under consideration for the Omnii platform. "The competition has never been tougher in our industry and Blackroc is aware that offering competitive pricing and services in addition to picking, packing and shipping is not enough to succeed," commented Jephcott.

A high-volume and low-margin model has dominated the Auto ID distribution channel in recent years, and all distributors now try to find a source of value add to gain extra  margin or to garner loyalty from resellers.  Blackroc's capability and long experience in the development of niche add-ons for the Psion range makes the company a key player in Psion's technology channel, and provides a key value-add differentiator for the company. Blackroc also comments that the development of these devices for Psion means technical understanding and support offered by Blackroc is "second to none". The company adds that this aftersales care coupled with quality repairs, attractive pricing and some of the highest Psion stock levels in the market makes Blackroc's distribution arm a distributor of choice for many resellers who need to offer their customers a higher quality service. This, states the company, gives it its key differentiation.

Recognising the importance of differentiation in a market where proven and popular products at competitive pricing are not enough, Psion has recently made major advancements in supporting its channel with the launch of its Partner Marketing delivery Platform. Upon obtaining a login, this comprehensive marketing tool offers resellers everything they need to reach their customers more effectively and is just one click away. Benefits range from customer lead generation campaigns and extensive resource libraries to marketing planning and support. A valuable online tool for building lead generation campaigns, Psion's self-service resource enables resellers to deliver relevant, focused campaigns to their customers within minutes. Material available Includes emails, direct mailers, spec sheets, landing pages and banners.

Blackroc concludes: "The combination of great product and great marketing support direct from Psion and a seamless reliable service from Blackroc make for a dynamic partnership."
