Tandberg Data, the global supplier of data protection solutions, has announced a family of intelligent network-attached disk appliances, called the AccuVault Series, that is said to dramatically improve the way small and medium businesses store, manage and protect their mission-critical data. According to the company, the Tandberg Data AccuVault delivers a combination of affordability, simplicity and security in a single pre-architected appliance that requires minimal time and expertise to deploy and manage, making it the ideal turnkey data protection solution for businesses and remote offices with limited IT resources.

Built on the familiar Windows operating system, AccuVault simplifies the protection of servers, virtual servers and workstations. AccuVault comes preconfigured with Tandberg Data's new AccuGuard Enterprise data protection software, which features powerful source-based deduplication that reduces redundancy inside and across files prior to transmission over the LAN. Additionally, AccuGuard Enterprise software globally deduplicates across all clients for maximum bandwidth and storage efficiencies. Providing best-in-class near-continuous data protection, the AccuVault Data Protection Appliance comes in three models: a desktop with an integrated RDX QuikStor and two rackmount models.

"The AccuVault is the next step in the evolution of data protection for SMBs," said Marije Stijnen, vice president of marketing for Tandberg Data. "This integrated backup and archiving appliance provides enterprise-class features such as source-based global deduplication, combined with ease of use and simple installation with agentless deployment. The integration with Tandberg Data's award-winning RDX QuikStor provides offline and offsite storage, further increasing the levels of data protection."

AccuVault RDX 1TB

Designed to protect up to five servers and/or workstations, the AccuVault RDX 1TB is a compact desktop data protection solution that provides users with the ability to centrally manage and protect their small businesses and remote office data. With a touch screen LCD display and built-in RDX dock, the AccuVault RDX 1TB is plug-and-play ready. The AccuVault RDX system includes 1TB of fixed disk and a 1TB RDX removable disk cartridge to facilitate online and offsite storage, disaster recovery and archiving. Onboard AccuGuard Enterprise software deduplicates data at the source, streamlining the storage backup process and greatly reducing the time and cost of transferring and storing data.

AccuVault 1U 4TB & AccuVault 1U 8TB

The AccuVault 1U rackmount models contain either 4TB of fixed disk or 8TB of fixed disk. The AccuVault 1U 4TB is designed to protect five to 20 servers and/or workstations, and the AccuVault 1U 8TB is designed to protect 20 to 40 servers and/or workstations. Both models integrate high- availability features such as RAID-5, hot-swap drives, redundant power, dual GbE and the ability to connect to a 1U RDX bay configuration. Onboard AccuGuard Enterprise software deduplicates data at the source, streamlining the storage backup process and greatly reducing the time and cost of transferring and storing data.

"While small and medium-sized businesses invariably need the same level of robust data protection as large enterprises, they often need to meet and support that requirement with relatively less IT budget and staffing," said Mark Peters, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "The Tandberg Data AccuVault appliance exemplifies the kind of technology that can bridge that resource gap by enabling such users to deploy a turnkey backup solution that is simultaneously very well featured yet affordable and very simple to install and manage."

AccuGuard Enterprise Data Protection and Deduplication Software

Designed for ease of set up, use and management, AccuGuard Enterprise software, which is embedded in the AccuVault appliance, increases effective backup storage capacity and decreases the backup windows leading to hard dollar savings. Source-based deduplication - deduplication of data by identifying and removing redundant data prior to storage - allows users to optimize bandwidth, enabling daily backups to shrink in size and run up to 20 times more efficiently. AccuGuard Enterprise software provides users with centralized management of client backup operations and eliminates redundancy across multiple clients. The software is ideal for environments that run Exchange and SQL as well as those with virtual machine applications like VMware and Hyper-V. In addition, AccuGuard Enterprise software facilitates management of RDX removable disk-based cartridges for offsite backup, disaster recovery and archive.
