Seagull Scientific has released version 9.2 of their BarTender label and RFID software. Among the new features are three new companion applications that simplify label printing and the administration of label format changes. Seagull also says that this is the first version of BarTender formally validated for operation on the recently-released Windows 7 operating system.

The new Librarian application lets large groups of users, designers and administrators cooperatively and securely manage the storage and revision of label formats and other files. Special attention was paid to the document management and audit preparation needs of users operating in highly-regulated environments, such as agricultural, pharmaceutical and military industries. Security settings define which users can check in and check out files, as well as who can transition between user-defined states, such as Proposed, In-Process, and Published. Librarian supports full rollback to earlier file versions.

There are also two new print utilities. The new BarTender Print Station allows non-technical users to launch print jobs without ever having to go inside a label design program. Instead, they just click to choose one of the label formats displayed on the Print Station screen. In addition, the Batch Maker utility offers basic drag and drop functions to group multiple label formats together for printing as a single batch.

BarTender 9.2 also expands the power of the Commander middleware utility, which can now return print job status information to controlling programs. Other new features include enhanced image processing functions, including the ability to acquire graphic images directly from cameras and scanners.
