Redundancy and energy savings, protecting business critical applications

Emerson Network Power continues its commitment to provide solutions that meet corporate needs for high availability, flexibility and low TCO in terms of the air-conditioning for computer rooms and data centres.

The main strength of the new Liebert HPM dual-circuit chilled water cooling unit, produced by Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity, lies in its two independent circuits that allow the maximum availability of air conditioning for data centres and technological sites, guaranteeing optimal flexibility and considerable energy savings.

The configuration of two independent circuits within a single unit, rather than the use of two, enables the Liebert HPM Dual CW unit to provide high availability of business applications and low TCO. Take for example large companies which need to air-condition buildings with extensive working areas during the daytime, but which at night time merely need to guarantee continuity of service of the data centre facilities on which the organisations most important applications are running.

With its two independent circuits, the Liebert HPM Dual CW unit can perform a comprehensive cooling action during the working day through its primary circuit, whereas at night time, when the air-conditioning requirements are reduced, it can exploit the secondary circuit together with a smaller chiller, thus generating significant energy savings. Savings can even be increased by the use of electronically commutated (EC) fans, which continuously regulate the flow of air, further reducing input power absorption and consequently energy costs.

One distinctive and critical aspect of the new solution produced by Emerson Network Power is its ability to guarantee an additional cooling effect, as it is possible for the two circuits to be operated simultaneously, for example whenever additional peaks of heat are generated in technological sites. The Liebert HPM Dual CW circuit units are available with a cooling capacity range between 20 to 120 kW per circuit.

Significantly, Liebert HPM Dual CW Circuit units may be utilised in data centres requiring 100% application availability, but where space is limited. With the new Liebert solution, it is possible to guarantee redundancy and performance with a single unit, thereby minimising the demand for space.

The Liebert HPM Dual CW Circuit also comes with iCOM control system that, through a special algorithm, connects directly to the infrastructures Ethernet network, enabling the units to communicate and synchronise, thus ensuring a high level of efficiency.
