Viatel has announced the opening of a new high-powered data centre in Reading, Berkshire, UK

The tier three data centre offers 600KW to 200 racks (16amps per rack), providing customers with the power to adopt the latest technology, whilst featuring metered billing, allowing customers to pay-per-KWH so that they only pay for the power that they use. This is the fifth addition to Viatels UK data centre portfolio, with existing sites in Bracknell, Egham and London.

Businesses today need high-power, high specification data centre facilities for the newest applications and storage, said Alastair Buck, co-location product director, Viatel. However, with many data centre cabinets capped at ten amps, businesses have been held back from implementing technologies that require more power. In addition, many companies are tightening their budgets during the economic downturn, which is why we have introduced the pay-per-KWH scheme. This way, companies can manage their costs during difficult times.

The data centre is a fully redundant facility with two dedicated mains substations on-site, two diesel generators and N+N Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units feeding power to dual power feeds per rack.  The site is also well equipped with high security features, such as 24 hour manned security, multiple CCTV cameras, and stringent card/pin/biometrics protected access. With the latest in power, security and air-conditioning features, this is a reliable, safe and secure option for companies wanting to host their IT infrastructure and in turn, implement a business continuity strategy. It also provides access to our full range of network services including Internet access, Ethernet, IPVPN and has high bandwidth links to our other data centres.

Increasingly, companies are looking to host servers in several different locations for increased security.  With high power requirements and space at a premium, we are helping companies with cost effective business continuity, commented Buck. The data centre offers flexible space, aimed at helping both large companies looking for tens of racks, and smaller companies that may only require a single rack unit. Furthermore, it is located outside of the M25 and has great transport links into and out of London. With everything from monitored billing to great security, this facility ticks all of the boxes, concluded Buck.
