New Appliances Offer Easy Archive Capability for Smaller Enterprises, Group Departments and Branch Offices

Nexsan Technologies, the leader in innovative and secure storage solutions, has announced two new models in its Assureon family of disk-based archive systems. The new appliances Assureon SA and Assureon NX provide simple and secure archiving capabilities for smaller enterprises, branch offices and group departments.

Nexsans Assureon SA Searchable Archive Appliance is a complete disk-based archiving solution for up to 20 million documents that uses a browser-type search engine for rapid file retrieval. Users can input key words or phrases to search for documents of any age regardless of whether records about the author or the date of origin are still known.

Assureon SAs secure storage architecture includes automated integrity checks and self healing functions to ensure the long term integrity of all archival content. The appliance uses Content Addressable Storage (CAS) technology to simplify management and reduce the cost of storing important digital assets. The appliance represents a cost-effective alternative to tape and other offline media and is capable of delivering fast, intelligent and affordable online access to archival information. The retrieval process of digital assets required for corporate governance, compliance requirements and electronic discovery is greatly simplified.

For companies simply wanting the easy, secure CAS archiving capability of the SA but without the search functionality there is the Assureon NX. The Assureon NX features higher usable capacity and a lower overall price point.  Both appliances are available in standalone or replicated versions and both offer CIFS / NFS interface enabling plug-and-play integration into any operating system.

Digital archives are not only growing in capacity, but also in the number of individual objects (defined as files and associated metadata) that are being managed by IT. ESG's Digital Archiving report shows a 65% CAGR of all archived data between 2007 and 2010.  By leveraging CAS technology to store files, images, recordings, email, and other fixed content as objects with a secure and unique universal identifier, small business users now have another option apart from traditional file system models, said Mark Bowker, analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group.  With the latest Assureon Archive Appliances, Nexsan has delivered solutions that are easy enough to use for those organisations that may lack extensive IT resources and expertise yet provide powerful security and data protection that companies of all size require.

Nexsans Assureon Archive Appliances are an easy and highly effective way for SMEs and enterprise departments to protect, retain, search for and rapidly retrieve important digital assets, said Brendan Kinkade, vice president of marketing at Nexsan.  These appliances deliver everything that smaller organisations need in an archival solution plug-and-play, easy to use, dont require a lot of space, highly reliable and providing enterprise-class security at a fraction of the cost of comparable legacy solutions.

Pricing and Availability

The Assureon SA and NX Archive Appliances are available now through Nexsans worldwide channel of resellers.  Pricing for the Assureon NX starts at 26500 and at 35000 for the SA.

About the Nexsan Assureon SA Archive Appliance

Assureon SA is a second-generation CAS appliance that allows simple integration for archiving, e-discovery, email and more.  Users can search for documents by date; special fields such as title, location, size and author; and keywords and/or phrases. Results are shown as summarised excerpts with the query terms highlighted. CAS also allows document-level security. This means users will only see documents that their position allows them to see. Its secure storage architecture delivers a comprehensive array of intelligent features including constant monitoring of file integrity, Lifecycle Management, file authentication, missing file alerts, and support for remote replication.  Data integrity and security is assured with RAID 6 protection, which prevents the risk of data loss even if two drives fail, and WORM disk functionality that provides non-erasable, non-rewritable functionality.
