SMARTZONE FOR ZONAL OCR RELEASED BY PEGASUS IMAGING

This new zonal OCR product internally utilizes two recognition techniques to co-verify results and increase accuracy over alternate engines.

Pegasus Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of document imaging technology, today released SmartZone, a powerful new zonal OCR software development kit (SDK) that provides a breakthrough in improved accuracy. Fewer recognition errors result in less manual intervention and reduced operating cost to software developers and their customers.

The SmartZone OCR toolkit offers developers the ability to perform zonal OCR (machine print character recognition) commonly used in forms processing applications. Available as both a .NET control and ActiveX COM component, it internally utilizes two separate recognition techniques to co-verify results and improve accuracy. ImagXpress Standard and ScanFix Xpress Lite are included with SmartZone for image handling, TWAIN scanning, and image cleanup.

SmartZone users can specify the confidence level required before reporting a suspect character. Confidence values can be reported for individual characters, text lines, or blocks of text. An application can even present the provided alternate character choices to enable rapid proofing.

Precise control over details such as character segmentation algorithms and allowed character sets is provided, including: individual characters, uppercase, lowercase, mixed case alphabetic, digits, currency symbols, combined currency and digits, arithmetic symbols, and punctuation characters. The result is improved accuracy in each recognition field.

SmartZone OCR is the upgrade path for customers currently using SmartScan Xpress ICR/OCR/OMR for zonal OCR only. SmartZone can be purchased as a standalone purchase, or as part of FormSuite, which packages Pegasus Imagings forms processing components into one convenient download and one discounted purchase. A FormSuite purchase includes FormFix Professional v3, SmartZone Professional v1, ScanFix Xpress Bitonal v5, and ImagXpress Document v8. SmartZone was designed specifically to work with the other FormSuite components. Sending image clips and instructions between components is easy to implement and executes quickly. For example, OCR results can be evaluated to select image cleanup options, or to make other processing decisions.
