Spectrum XF, Sidekick and Truper Series document scanners integrate fully with newest VRS software version, free upgrades available

The latest version of Kofax's VirtualReScan (R) (VRS) technology -- the de facto industry standard for image processing - now is certified for BWE BELL + HOWELL's high-end Spectrum XF Series, midrange Truper Series and entry-level Sidekick Series document scanners.

In keeping with the company's commitment to always add value to its dependable and easy-to-use production document scanners, BWE BELL + HOWELL has worked closely with Kofax to meticulously test its scanners to ensure they are fully compatible with the Professional and Basic versions of VRS 4.1. The Professional version of VRS 4.1 is an advanced version of VRS 4.1 Basic that adds robust imaging and productivity enhancement features to further reduce the need for manual intervention in the scanning process.

Winner of the AIIM 2006 Best of Show Award in the 'Production Scanners' category, the new Spectrum XF Series scanners -- which perform up to 30 percent faster than previous models and capture up to 140 pages per minute - soon will come bundled with VRS 4.1 Professional.

The Truper 3200 low-volume production scanner soon will come packaged with VRS 4.1 Professional. The rotary-only Truper 3600 model will come bundled with the VRS 4.1 Basic version or optionally, with VRS 4.1 Professional. Introduced in March 2006, the Truper 3600 is a compact, powerful and easy to use scanner that recently won the AIIM 2006 Best of Show Award for the 'Mid-volume Scanners' category.

Kofax and BWE BELL + HOWELL also tested and certified the Sidekick family of workgroup and departmental scanners for the Professional and Basic versions of VRS 4.1.  Sidekick, a powerful bundle that contains in a single box everything an end user needs to operate a desktop imaging solution, will soon come packaged with VRS 4.1 Basic.

VRS Adds 'Professional' Touch to Imaging

VRS 4.1 Professional extends the capabilities introduced with VRS 4.0 Plus, minimizing document preparation time and offering intelligent color detection features. The new VRS 4.1 Professional works in sync with all certified BWE BELL + HOWELL scanners to significantly reduce manual document scanning steps. It allows users to maximize throughput and process more images, faster, without human intervention.

Used in combination with 4.1 Professional, Spectrum XF -- with onboard hardware VRS -- makes scanning documents in color as efficient as scanning in bitonal or grayscale.  Onboard VRS is the best way to take full advantage of the image enhancement and interactive problem resolution functionality that VRS has to offer without sacrificing scanning speed.

Spectrum XF scanners with VRS 4.1 Professional offer Onboard Auto Color Detect -- a feature that automatically scans color documents in color and black-and-white documents in bitonal, even when mixed together.  VRS 4.1 Professional also sports features that further automate the scanning process by eliminating the need to pre-sort documents, adjust scanner settings or insert separator sheets for every batch. For example, Blank Page Deletion removes all blank pages for single-sided pages when scanning in duplex mode, and Auto Orientation provides up to 20 percent faster scanning speeds in bitonal by analyzing the content of each document scanned and "auto-rotating" the image to its proper orientation.

"Image quality and productivity are critical to any imaging operation, and Kofax's VRS 4.1 works in step with BWE BELL + HOWELL scanners to minimize scanning time and optimize scanned image quality," said Russell Hunt, president of BWE BELL + HOWELL Scanners.  "With the certification and integration of VRS 4.1, we continue to provide end users a consistent, reliable platform across our high-end, mid-range and entry-level scanners."
