Fujitsu complements scanner range with Kofax VRS 4.1 Basic

Fujitsu Europe Limited, the market-leading provider of document imaging scanners, today announced its intention to ship Fujitsu scanners with Kofax VRS 4.1 Basic software included in the box.

From mid-September 2006 Fujitsu will offer its workgroup scanners, the fi-5120C and fi-5220C, plus its departmental and low volume models, the fi-5530C, fi-4340C, fi-5650C and fi-5750C, with Kofax VRS 4.1 Basic. These bundles can benefit users by further reducing document preparation and manual intervention during the scanning process.  Fujitsu will also offer upgrade options for VRS 4.1 Basic to the Professional version.

Functionality offered with Kofax VRS 4.1 Basic
        Automatic de-skew without character degradation
Automatic brightness settings that are optimal for the document type
        Contrast enhancement for faint content
Auto-cropping of any background or noise to yield smaller image file sizes
        De-speckling of images

Many of these functions such as automatic de-skew and auto-cropping can be alternatively initiated through the generic TWAIN and ISIS drivers included with all Fujitsu scanners. However, with Fujitsus VRS 4.1 Basic edition, the scanning operator has other choices as to how they want to utilise the scanner as well as adapting the scanner process to exactly match their specific scanning requirements and expectations.

Added technology offered with Kofax VRS 4.1 Professional

In addition to the bundled VRS 4.1 Basic software, users can opt to upgrade their packages to VRS 4.1 Professional for accessing additional functions like:

Auto-rotation of documents based on content for a correctly oriented image
Intelligent blank page deletion based on a checkbox setting
Bleed through detection by comparing the front and back of each document
Advanced clarity option to process documents with complicated, textured backgrounds
Automatic colour detection without changes to scanner settings, even for small colour areas
Background smoothing to output an image with a solidified background colour
QC Later mode for Ascent Capture 7.0 and later users

Fujitsu also offers its mid volume document scanner models, the fi-4860C2 and fi-5900C, with a hardware-based CGA board, which includes the VRS 4.0 Professional software.
