Paxar, the world's leading provider of fully integrated and innovative labeling, merchandising and identification solutions, has been working with Madhouse, a leading UK independent retailer of jeans and fashion clothing, for over 15 years supplying the necessary hardware, cards, tickets and barcodes for all its labeling needs. When Madhouse, needed a solution for the huge task of marking down discounted items, Paxar was the obvious choice.

Madhouse staff had been manually marking down products using red pens to cross out an original price and write the new price on the ticket. This method was both inefficient for staff and often illegible to consumers. The Monarch Pathfinder Ultra 6032  (Ultra 6032) was the answer a handheld printer combining outstanding small label printing value with unique productivity enhancing print and apply capabilities.

At the time of pre-Christmas trading in 2005, Madhouse trialled 15 of Paxars Ultra 6032 printers in 3 of its central London locations. The feedback was extremely positive; also considering the trial was during the retail chains busiest period. Staff found the printers easy to use and believed the uniform tickets gave the store a more professional image. They also noted they were able to assist more customers as a result of being present on the shop floor whilst using the unit. Following the successful trial, Madhouse purchased 15 additional printers now in use across all outlets.

Recently Madhouse had noted that due the amount of stock that is marked-down on a weekly basis, the chance of human error increased. Madhouse was interested in a solution to eliminate the possibility of a user entering an incorrect price. The Monarch Pathfinder Ultra Platinum 6039 (Ultra 6039), in addition to scanning, collecting data and printing and applying labels, allows files to be stored in the unit and can therefore be updated with daily price lists. Labels are then printed directly from these price lists eliminating the chance of data entry error completely.

Mick Tesseras, Systems Manager of Madhouse said today: The trials of the 6032 demonstrated the ease of use for staff and the high quality of the labels produced as well as the positive impact on overall store image. The 6039 was a natural progression providing greater automation of the reduction process and eliminating human error through the bar code reader.

Max Tatford, Marketing Manager at Paxar commented: We have a well established relationship with Madhouse and know the business thoroughly - having supplied all its labelling needs for the past 15 years. As the business expands we are able to offer bespoke solutions to meet its changing needs. Were delighted Madhouse is trialling the 6039 which will see staff spending less time in the back room allowing more time to focus on front of house sales.
