Sharp has unveiled the MX range, a new range of digital, full colour multifunctional printers delivering advanced colour, speed, security and environmental performance in the general office environment.

The first two models to be introduced are the MX-2700N and MX-2300N, which provide output speeds of 27ppm and 23ppm respectively for both colour and black & white documents, and deliver full colour copy, networking printing and network scanning functions for documents up to A3 in size.  Both models combine an outstanding range of sophisticated features that promise to re-define the standard in the MFP market.

The launch of the MX range represents a significant milestone for Sharp and is an outstanding showcase for our development, investment and expertise within the MFP market, explains Tom Primett, Marketing Manager, Sharp.  The MX range brings to market a fresh new design and a strong mix of features which will not only address the advanced productivity and performance needs of our customers, but will also set new standards in terms of what todays multi-functional devices should deliver.

A strong MiX of features: Cost & Security Control
With a need for increased control over the cost and usage of colour MFPs in the office environment, features such as Auto Colour Selection play a key role, managing the selection of appropriate modes when printing multi-page documents featuring both colour and mono pages.   Furthermore, the MX range supports an advanced range of features which can be tailored to individual customer needs and provide powerful user control over both cost and security.

Complete device control can be achieved through the creation of authority groups, where restricted operation can be set up function by function, while the use of ID and/or password allows machine access to be limited to specifically approved individuals, groups or departments.  Through network authentication, ID, password and email address can be authenticated prior to access, which can also be linked directly to accounting for cost monitoring purposes.

Protection against unauthorised access is achieved through the Secure Network Card, which provides a firewall and network port and protocol management.  Secure communication around the network is assured with Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which encrypts data packets to prevent leakage through the network.  An optional Data Security Kit (DSK) safeguards information stored on the hard disk or internal memory of the MFP by automatically encrypting or erasing the data after each job is completed.

A strong MiX of features: Document Management & Printing
Document management is greatly simplified thanks to a comprehensive list of standard features provided on both models.  Using the Document filing function, up to 1000 files can be stored on the MFPs hard disk in Quick File, Main or Custom Folders for easy retrieval.  The Custom Folder offers the additional benefit of password security for confidential files.

Courtesy of Sharps award winning original document software SharpDesk, organising, editing, searching and distributing documents can be done with ease from the users desktop, and allows management of documents in over 200 file formats.  Furthermore, features such as Printer Status Monitor enable remote desktop checking of the printer status, including progress and completion of print jobs.

In addition to standard network printing, the MX-2300N and MX-2700N also offer USB memory direct printing, allowing printing from USB memory devices without the need for PC access.  Managing large jobs is also made easy with the network tandem function, which effectively doubles output speed by linking two machines.  Professional document finishing is achieved courtesy of specially developed, optional internal and external finishers, both providing 50 sheet stapling and hole punching modules, and additional saddle stitch stapling (external finisher only).   Through the addition of a variety of optional paper trays, the standard paper capacity of 2 x 500 sheets can be increased to an impressive maximum capacity of 5,600 sheets.

Both models feature full colour network scanning as standard, and offer compatibility with TWAIN-compliant applications and a variety of scanned file formats including TIFF, PDF and JPEG (colour only).  Scanned documents can be sent to selected destinations including PC desktop, FTP server, USB memory device, email or network folder.  The standard stackless duplex module and standard 100-sheet reversing single pass feeder ensure that batch scans of mixed colour and black & white documents, or indeed documents of mixed size, are handled with ease.

Document workflow is easily controlled via a large touch screen panel, which employs Sharps award winning user interface.  Users benefit from an intuitive, common sense layout, and the ability to automate tasks which may previously have taken several steps to complete.

A strong MiX of features: Enhanced Productivity and Environmental Commitment
The MX range reinforces Sharps environmental commitment, through the development of a significantly smaller and more efficient toner cartridge.  High quality, full colour imaging is achieved with reduced toner consumption, while the new toner technology ensures a mono cost per print that is equivalent to that of conventional mono devices.  A non-oil based fuser delivers luxurious images, which combined with the incorporation of Sharps colour stabilising system ensures consistently high image quality.

Furthermore, efficiency in toner cartridge manufacture results in a very low waste rate.  Cartridges are made from recyclable plastic, and packaging material is also substantially reduced due to the smaller cartridge size.  Power consumption can also be controlled through a variety of modes, including pre-heat mode, automatic power shut-off mode and manual energy save mode.  All of these features, combined with a new long life OPC Drum, ensure that the MX range delivers increased efficiency and productivity, but complies with all environmental regulations.

A strong MiX of features: Setting a new standard in the MFP market
The stylish and ergonomic design of the MX series will ensure that it complements any modern office environment, creating an attractive hub for managing the communication of important information.  Standard features such as high speed colour printing, USB scanning & printing support, tandem copying & printing and options such as the new inner finisher will deliver a high level of quality and efficiency.  These, combined with the sophisticated usage control options and new toner technology, will ensure that the MX range delivers a healthy balance between cost, productivity and performance.

The MX-2300N priced from 9,995 ex VAT and the MX-2700N priced from 10,995 ex VAT are available now from Sharp accredited outlets.
