DICOM Group plc: Acquisition of LCI for 3.8m Expands Core Technology Portfolio

DICOM Group plc, a global leader of Information Capture and Communications solutions, announces the acquisition of Learning Computers International GmbH (LCI), a provider of advanced learning systems that enable business process automation. DICOM Group will pay EUR 5.6m (3.8m) in cash for the remaining 81 per cent of LCI, having previously acquired a 19 percent stake in 2003.

Headquartered in Kirchzarten, Germany, LCI provides advanced algorithms for image classification, forms processing and document analysis, including components co-developed with Kofax.

This acquisition gives DICOM Group additional technology that rounds out the organisations product offerings and further penetrates the Intelligent Document Recognition (IDR) section of the capture market, one of the fastest growing segments of the information capture industry, according to research by Harvey Spencer Associations. IDR employs recognition technologies, business rules and data validations to analyse the content and layout of scanned images.

This acquisition is a natural and strategic addition to DICOM Group after a successful three year partnership with LCI. commented Rob Klatell, Chief Executive Officer designate, DICOM Group. "LCIs easy to use image classification and extraction technologies broaden our reach into the IDR section of the market, give us the industrys most comprehensive technology portfolio and complement the advanced capture capabilities of our INDICIUS offering.

LCI will retain its location, and its development and management teams will continue to strengthen DICOM Groups leadership in the Information Capture market by providing significant expertise in the expansion of current and future products.

"LCI looks forward to working within DICOM Group to create the most sophisticated products to enable business process automation, said Dr. Alexander Goerke, managing director of LCI.  Weve appreciated our relationship with DICOM Group over the past three years and look forward to working together to expand the pervasiveness of our Information Capture technology among our worldwide partners and customers."
