Careless Talk Costs Money

An old a wartime poster warned of spies by claiming 'Careless talk costs lives'.  In today's competitive business battlefield, careless chat across advanced computer communications can cost money, and even careers.  Privacy is all important in the work environment, yet the temptation to use new and often free web-based commutations can cloud our usual reservations about Internet security.  Already, use of Skype, has been banned in some university and research centres in France.

Commented Lars Persson, CEO of real time collaboration software provider, Marratech: "Voice over IP systems are being touted as a free or low cost replacement for the conventional telephone. As a result, they are seeing phenomenal take-up rates.  Working on a PC or laptop, it is very tempting just to click a mouse and make a cheap phone call, but that one click can leave a corporate network dangerously exposed.  "Instead of routing calls through a centralized infrastructure, Skype makes users part of the network, using their terminals to route other calls.  This can quickly swamp a company network leaving it exposed to a high volume of unknown Internet traffic."

According to Persson, while the Voice over IP and messaging revolution can cut the home computer user's phone bill, it should not be seen as a business solution.  "Our technicians foresaw these problems and created Marratech with two key attributes form day one it had to work on Windows, Mac and Linux - and be secure."

The result is a 'virtual office' which enables groups of people to meet from any location with a high speed broadband connection, safe in the knowledge that their business is protected by default 256 bit AES encryption twice the usual standard found in banking and finance.  Added Persson: "VoIP and messaging systems are rapidly taking over from the telephone for home users, but businesses need serious Real Time Collaboration solutions if they are see cost and efficiency benefits without risk."
