Zebra launches mid-range printer to give SMEs a competitive edge

S4M printer is easy to use, reliable, durable and cost effective

Zebra Technologies has launched its latest desktop thermal label and barcode printer, the S4M. Built to withstand the rigours of industrial warehousing and distribution, this new printer design has been based on feedback from Zebra channel partners around the world.

Housed within a durable metal enclosure and die-cast frame, the S4M is hardwearing, reliable and easy to use. This makes it well suited to the particular working environments found in manufacturing, distribution, retail and postal/parcel industry warehouses.

Competition in these industries is intense; companies need to achieve maximum value from key business processes and printing and labelling has a direct effect on the cost of distribution. Reducing hardware and maintenance costs adds directly to the bottom line.

Our partners told us that their small and medium sized customers wanted a specialised label printer but didnt have the demands of a global corporation, said Rod Rodericks, managing director for Zebra Technologies in EMEA.

They wanted to cut the cost of printing by reducing printer downtime. What was needed was a rugged, metal printer, thats dependable, easy to set up and easy to maintain. With the S4M we have delivered a mixture of functionality and reliability that meets the needs of small and medium sized businesses, continued Rodericks.

Metal construction is typically available only on high-priced printers but is at the core of the S4Ms design. Several media management features also minimise downtime and maximise productivity. For example, the printer uses large eight-inch rolls of labels that are easy to slide in instead of the standard five-inch rolls that need changing more frequently. The integral LCD display presents operating information clearly while the keypad offers simple controls.

The S4M integrates well into companies that may well have a variety of existing printers. Using Zebras ZPL and EPL printer command languages or, with the optional ZebraLink Alternate Programming Language (APL), the S4M can quickly replace an existing printer. In addition, the S4M has serial, parallel, and USB connectivity plus optional internal ethernet or wireless. Compatible with ZebraNet Bridge Enterprise software, S4M printers can be viewed and controlled from a central IT location that may be many miles away.
