LSI Logic first to ship Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) solutions to the Channel

LSI Logic has announced that Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) product solutions using its Host Bus Adapters (HBA) are now available to customers through channel VARs, system builders and system integrators. LSI Logic is the first company to ship SAS HBAs in volume to the Channel, allowing it to bring this new technology rapidly to the marketplace as next-generation server adoption commences.

LSI Logic SAS HBAs have been proven interoperable with all leading hard disk drive manufacturers. By driving this next-generation technology, LSI Logic is able to bring product to market more quickly, and with proven reliability. By using a SAS server solution, customers gain the flexibility to use either SAS or Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drives, or a combination of both, since the SAS architecture supports either interface.

As next-generation server platforms come to market, Channel providers and customers can access the benefits of SAS/SATA connectivity, proven interoperability and high-performance reliability, early in this new technologys lifecycle, said Kerry Reid, senior director for Channel Business Development at LSI Logic. Were deeply committed to timely Channel product implementation. Early shipment of SAS HBAs underscores the importance of the Channel to LSI Logic.

As the first SAS HBA commercially available in the channel, the dual-channel LSI Logic SAS3442X will enable system builders, VARs and system integrators to develop high-performance, flexible Serial Attached SCSI server platforms. The LSI Logic SAS3442X is a PCI-X, eight-port 3Gb/s SAS HBA delivering unparalleled connectivity for advanced workstations and servers.

The SAS3442X HBA will be available in both 5 Packs and Kits. The 5 Pack includes five SAS3442X cards, driver CDs and low profile brackets. The SAS3442X Kit includes the SAS3442X HBA, two attachment cables that support direct connection to either SAS or SATA hard disk drives, and an optional low-profile bracket and installation guide. Because the SAS physical layer is compatible with Serial ATA, SAS and SATA drives can be combined within the same system to create tiered storage to match the requirements of the data.
