Tough just got tougher

Swedish mobile computing company, Handheld Europe AB, has announced the availability of its next generation Ranger ultra rugged hand held computer for the European market. The Ranger reportedly is an extremely rugged product that meets or exceeds the IP67 and 810F military standards for drops, vibration, altitude, dust, corrosion and water immersion.

According to the company, the next generation Ranger adds versatility and more features to the pioneering original and its already outstanding performance and is now available in two models. The Ranger 300X comes with a 312 MHz Intel XScale processor, 64 MB of SDRAM and 256 MB of embedded Flash. The Ranger 500X comes with a 520 MHz processor, 128 MB of SDRAM and 512 MB of embedded Flash. Integrated Bluetooth short-range wireless is standard on the Ranger 500X and optional on the Ranger 300X. Integrated 802.11b wireless is optional for both models.



The new Ranger complements the existing rugged Windows Mobile-based Recon device.

The display has been designed for brightness and clarity in all lightning conditionseven in direct sunlight. The waterproof unit combines military-grade durability with a Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC and has a rechargeable battery that operates 30-hours. The Ranger reportedly can quickly process graphic-intensive applications and in the most challenging work environments. The Ranger is designed for all-day operation in extreme outdoor and industrial environments and handles extreme heat, up to +60 and extreme cold, down to -30. Handheld Europe says the rugged construction makes it ideal for public safety, field service, utilities, military and other outdoor or service-related applications.
